I wanted to know how many lap band surgery patients have excessive skin after the weightloss. I am thinking about having the lap band surgery & I was wondering if anyone here had any experiences to share. Thanks for any informartion regarding this matter. Karen

Hi, I am having open RNY, but have a friend who had lap band surgery about a year and a half ago. She just had a tummy tuck done about 3 weeks ago. She had just as much loose skin as any other WLS. I don't think it matters which kind of surgery you have. If you are obese, your skin is stretched out, and it is my understanding that unless you are very young, you have the sagging skin. Whatever type of surgery you have, You are still losing weight at a fast rate, and your skin sags. Jenni

I just had the lap-band 3 weeks ago but I already had a hanging tummy from 2 vertical c-sections. I think it depends more on your body type than which surgery you have. One of the nurses at our center said that if you are pretty proportioned and have your weight distributed all over you may be less likely to have excess tummy skin than whether you have a lot of abdominal weight.
