Psy. Evaluation- Anyone ever been told they need a few sessions or medication?
Hi All! I am starting on my weight loss journey and I had my Psy evaluation today. I was told I was depressed and needed a few more sessions and or some medication for depression. Now I know I am not the happiest person in the world and the weight even makes you more unhappy about yourself, but I was told I needed to get a few more of the 200 hundred dollars sessions. Or I can get on some medication. I am very stable and have a stable life but has anyone ever been told the same thing or am I just the exception?
This has really bothered me today and I do not make on the moment decisions and I have thought and done research on this surgery. But now I wonder if this sounds right. Please if someone has had this experience email me or post me a message. I am going to continue to finish my other tests that are mandatory but should I go to another Psycologist? She did not talk favorable about the surgery to begin with. This is one that my surgeon has on his refernce sheet he had given me. What do you think????
Thanks for all who answers with a reply.............
Hi,
I only had to go to the Psyc. one time, and he recommended the surgery for me. I think most only have to go for one visit. Sounds like yours is trying to drum up some business. I did not use one that was on my surgeon's list. I found my own who cost about 1/2 what the others wanted, and left his office with my evaluation in hand. I think I would check around for another....Good luck.....Jenni
Davina, I am not sure where u r, but I live in Elizabethtown and go to Dr Shina in Louisville. For my psych eval I couldn't find a psychologist here in Etown so I went to Dr Hedden in Louisville. He was great! I was worried that he would find me depressed also cause I am on meds for it, due to my weight. But, he didn't. He said that I am a wonderful candidate for weight loss surgery. Also, I don't know about your ins, but mine covered the psychologist 90%. I paid $15 cause the session was $150. He faxed the report to Dr Shinas office the next day...Good luck and take care.

Davina,
It sounds live this dr. is trying to get some extra sessions (= extra $$ for him). I would definately seek a second opinion. Ask your surgeon's office who they would recommend. They should give you someone who is familiar w/wls and what you need to get approved for your insurance. Good luck!
