I have now went through all of my pre surgery testing. Whew! Now it is time for my Dr. Office to send them off to my insurance company. I just meet the requirements for my Anthem Blue Cross insurance. I am having the gastric Bypass if approved. Can anyone tell me that once you have the surgery do you still have the appetite for food? Is it that you just cannot eat or are you even hungry? I hope I get approved but these are some things that I am wondering about. Also does anyone know much about Doctor Tim Wheeler in Ashland KY? That is who I have chosen to do my surgery. I appreciate any replys. I alwasy read on this message board and I have learned so much. Thankyou to everyone *****plys...

I am 3 months out and I will attempt to anwser some of your questions. First, we're all a little different. I do some times get a little hungry, but not 3 or 4 times a day but maybe 3 or 4 times a week.It is usually after going without food for a long time. A few bites of something will stop the hunger.Drinking something also seems to relieve the hunger,so it may just be thirst that I think is hunger. I have had about 7 or 8 episodes of overeating or just food not agreeing with me and have upchucked. The first was about 2 weeks out.Its not the same as vomiting when you have a whole stomach. The food seem to come up easily and you don't get week or dizzy or sweaty from vomiting, and I immediatly feel better. It's over in one episode , so if you continue to get sick you need to call the Doctor. Also don't eat again for a couple of hours after being sick. I was told by my nutritionist that there is more of a problem of undereating than overeating during the first year. And I find this ture, most of the time I have to remind my self to eat. I do love to dine-out and this is when I tend to over-indulge, but it hurts to over -do, so I learned quickly to limit myself.

Best of luck to you on the road to weight loss!! I've had my surgery 8/26 and much like she mentioned previously...there is no hunger..there's no appetite. I do crave strange and unusual things. I've had a couple of episodes of upchucking..and no it's not pleasant, but it also isn't coming up with stomach acids either. It does tend to make your pouch sore tho. I drink a lot of water all day and 1/2 the night and the only thing I can truely say I miss is my morning coffee.. I just can't handle decaff so I've stayed away from it all. this message board is full of wonderful information-the whole website has been a GODSEND to me. Thank you all for being there!! renee

I had the DS so maybe I'm a little different, but I don't get really hungry anymore. I eat 3 meals and at least 2 snacks every day because if I go many hours without eating, I still get kinda sick at my stomach. Now, sometimes, I do get a craving for something--say a a piece of peach cobbler, so I eat it, but am satisfied with maybe a couple of bites. -joanne s

I am only 2 months out, but as of yet I have not experienced hunger. I eat by the clock and because I know I must, not because I'm hungry. It's a pleasant change from a life where food (and my stomach) ruled my life! It's actually a bit of a chore to eat now. Before surgery I was a chocolate/sugar/carb/Diet Pepsi addict. I have had none of the above since I started the pre-op diet 3 weeks before surgery. I can't say that I've had any cravings (yet?). Even the ads on tv that used to be mouthwatering, now leave me cold. The best part of all... in the last almost 3 months I've gone from a 22-24W to closing in fast on my size 16 jeans... not 16W... a straight 16! With that comes a much needed boost in self-esteem! Good luck! Rhonna

Congrats on your approval. I'll try to answer your questions. I'm almost 2.5 years out.Everyone is a little different. I didn't want anything right after the surgery for about 4 weeks. Then I wanted tomatoes and at least a cracker to eat with my peanutbutter. But I resisted the temptation except for an occasional 1/2 slice of tomato. At about 8 weeks I had 1 cracker but the dietican told me to make sure it was round. Now, I have some cravings. When I have them I might indulge myself. But, I try tostay away from straches because they make me crave sweets. Strange thing is I never was a sweet eater before my surgery. I have lost 239lbs and have about 30 more to go. You will find the most important thing to you is no longer how much you enjoy the food but how much you enjoy those around you. Diane
