Does anyone here have Humana PPO Choice Care and have weight loss surgery? What do they require? I am still looking into this and really trying on my own to lose weight with no success. It's really hard but I am not to the point of yes I am going to have WLS.I think it's my fear of dying..leaving my 4 year old son without a mama or making it through the surgery only be to unhealthy and not be able to eat anything.I am not afraid of dying..I am ready (in the spirtual way) but not ready to leave my son.If I didn't have him..I would be scared but I would think my parents, husband, etc would be devastated but would move on and live life. They are grown but my son is little..and I can't imagine him being without me growing up.He's so much a mama's boy. I know I will never, ever know for sure that everything will be "okay".We don't know the future at all.I know in my heart that if I don't lose this weight (150 lbs) then I WILL die early of a heart attack, cancer, stroke or be disabled. I can't LIVE now.I get by...I am fairly happy in life with a great mom and dad, husband, son and other family.I have a decent part time job with wonderful co-workers.However I don't do the things I want to..because I can't.I clean house and I feel like I've done several days work.I want more energy to clean house,go camping,be able to ride on things at Six Flags, run with my son, feel more comfortable and healthy in my skin.I do want to look better and wear cute clothes...but truly it's about my health.I feel pain in my legs/feet/knees all the time.I have high blood pressure,PCOS,joint pain,IBS,migraines, and almost Diabetes. My Dr. says in a few months I may be on medcine for high cholestrol.I am 26 but feel much older.I am on several medicines...more than anyone my age that I know. It's sad at times but why can't I make the final decison to pursue weight loss surgery??? Did anyone elso go through this? Thanks for being here..and thanks for reading this! You ALL inspire me as I read the posts!

Hi Shannon.. I have Humana PPO and I had the gastric bypass on 10/5/04.. I had no problems at all with Humana approving the surgery for me. I only had to do the pysch eval and a nutrional eval... It is actually different with all Humana plans though. It really depends on the employer. My best friend who has Humana was denied. Not because of what Humana said but because her employer had a clause in the contract stating it is not covered. Call Humana and someone there would be able to tell you if your cvg includes surgeries for weight loss. Make sure they understand that you are requesting to know only if it is medically necessary otherwise you may get a incorrect answer. Good luck

Hello Shannon I am an employee of Humana and I am having lap band surgery on April 6th, I do know it depends on your insurance if you want to email at [email protected] and let me know your group # i will look up and find out if there are any clauses. The insurance has changed since January 1st and they are requiring an evaluation and sometimes (most of the time a 6 month diet plan with your doctor) that means a monthly doctor visit including what kind of diet, what exercise plan. Please email me I will be happy to look into it for you. I am so thrilled and can't wait for my surgery. Terry

Hi I had Humana choicecare when I had surgery on 12-28-04. They were wonderful to me. Dr. Shina's office handled all the paper work and phone calls. I think the WLS has saved my life. I no longer take HBP meds and the high cholestrol meds have been greatly reduced. I feel so much better. I know I'm a better mom to my boys, a better wife, a better ...you get the picture!! You mentioned being spiritual. I thought about the surgery for quite sometime. I heard our insurance was changing for the worst. I prayed about it. I attended a seminar and placed it all in the Lord's hands. Everything has worked out perfectly. I have not been sick at all. I'm starting to feel more tired lately but I think I need to start taking b-12. I believe giving it to the Lord was the best thing to do!! Everything has worked wonderful! I hope this has helped. My home e-mail is [email protected] if you have any questions. Blessings Tonya
