Ok I have a question here for some. My hubby has a new job now and is getting insurance so I can have this surgery finally. What I want to ask is which is the best of the 2? Cigna or Anthem? His job is in the Winchester area. So if anyone is in that area that has this insurance can they email me so I can talk to them. I have looked at both and what I can tell is that Cigna will accept it and but dont know yet about Anthem. The insurance is Cigna Open Access Plus. Thanks Terri

I would check with Hubby's HR department, or call Cigna. Cigna has a written exclusion for the surgery with many companies. The companies have to purchase an additional rider at the time of their plan renewal in order for the surgery to be covered. Even if it is covered cigna demands the following and they will not waiver recent 6 month physician supervised weight loss attempt. meaning you must go to the dr every month for 6mos and get weighed and have them councel you on weight loss. psych evail other co morbities making the surgery medically necessary BMI over 30 and a detailed letter from you with your struggle to lose weight, the diets you have tried etc. It took me almost 2 years and a state appeal to get approved by Cigna. I was approved in Dec 2004 and found out as of Jan 2005 there would be a written exclusion for the surgery so I had to rush and get the surgery done b-4 Jan 2005. I do not know about Anthem, I dont think it is that hard with them. I hope this helps Sherri
