I am coming up on my 1yr. anniversary for WLS from June 10, 2004 to the present, I have lost a total of 110 pounds . Now I am dealing with the issue of loose skin around my abdomen. What I would like to know is if anyone has had any success with getting United Health Care to cover the removal of this access skin due to WLS. Any and all information anyone can provide on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

CONGRATULATIONS on your loss, LaTonya!!! I have read on the main board that many insurers cover this, and I know Anthem in KY does, IF there are complications. The main thing they require is that the overhanging skin has had a rash, infection, etc. where it overlaps. If you have these symptoms and have never talked to your regular doc about them, you need to go and get it documented. If United pays for it, they will probably be looking for it. Anthem also requires that the patient has maintained at least a 100 pound loss for a certain period of time (I don't remember exactly how long). I would call customer service at United to find out if it's ever covered, and what their requirements are. Best of luck - let us know how it goes!!! Jo
