This scares me....

I have bravely faced everything negative about weight loss surgery (nausea, no sugar, loose skin, etc) but I am experiencing something now that has me terrified. Hair loss!! It didn't start until about two weeks ago, but the amount I am losing is awful. Along with my regular vitamins, I have started taking Biotin, I wish I had known about it earlier, and I work consistently on protein (My blood work shows that my protein levels are good). Is there anything else I can do? I have thought maybe stress is contributing to it, but I have been under a lot more stress in the past and it has never happened. Could it be that I am losing weight too quickly? I have lost 80 pounds since surgery on Feb. 25th. Any other suggestions/ideas would be greatly appreciated! Sheila

Hi Sheila, I know exactly what you're going through! Luckily, the Lord blessed me with a thick head of hair. I went and got my hair cut last week and my stylist said she could tell a noticable difference. Thank goodness it's only temporary! One of the suggestions I received was to cut my hair shorter, which I have. I guess longer hair means heavier hair. I would tell you to keep doing what you're doing, and maybe try a new 'do! Good luck and congrats on your weight loss. I, unfortunately, am a slow loser. 62 lbs, but not complaining. Kytz

Hi Sheila First of all you look GREAT!!! !! The hair loss is part of this process. Sad but true. The good news is that it is temporary. I had surgery 12-28. My hair loss started really bad in March- I think. It seems to be slowing down I have read your profile and know that cutting is most likely not an option for you. I have cut my hair BUT how knows if that really help. I did get a perm at the end of Jan because I did not want to have to mess with my hair when I went back to work. That helped make my hair look fuller but that is all. I have read that biotin does help. Hang in there girl. You have come so far to let this get you down. Blessings Tonya

Sheila, I know someone else who after surgery lost a lot of her hair, but the really funny thing is that a little later it came back, CURLY! She had always had straight hair and now it is curly as can be. Just hang in there and do what you are doing, people who undergo major surgery have given their body a lot to deal with and sometimes hair loss is a temporary side effect. Good Luck, Alice
