I had wls at SJE 3.5 years ago. I was number 8. They had had many successful surgeries since then. After, you finish all the test then you begin the hurry up and wait time. This is the time when you wait for the insurance and the surgery to be scheduled. The pre-op diet is not always easy to follow. But, just remember if you want success with your surgery you must get use to following the diet. In my opinion, those of us who have be lost with little to no problems are the ones who followed the pre and post-op diet closely. But, don't be discouraged. Once you fall off the diet, get back on it. Don't wait for the next day, start the next minute. We all have times of weakness. But, we cannot continuely give in to them.

I also had surgery at SJE with Dr. Steiner. After your tests are done, you just wait for them to send your letter in to the insurance company. How long that takes depends on your insurance. Mine was approved in 16 days. As far as the diet, the most important thing is that you not gain any more. they would like for you to lose, but if you don't, at least don't gain. I don't know if they will do your surgery or not if you don't lose. Things have changed since I had mine three years ago.

hi Chad, i don't know for sure about the other docs but the docs at SJE do ask that you diet and try to lose before surgery. It is not as some say, to see if you will be compliant after surgery but it is a liver shrinking diet to take some of the fat from your liver so you will be in less danger when you have surgery. I had a special set of cir****tances going into my surgery and they just asked that I try to maintain and not gain anymore. But my situation was different from the others. i know a long term post op that had surgery before me at SJE and he lost 70 lbs. He went on what they call a modified ATKINS diet. He ate mostly meat and a lot of bacon. I don't know if that is what they are telling people to eat now or not. It might have changed in the three years since I had surgery. But do your best and try to do all the docs ask of you and you will be fine. Do you smoke? If so, now is a good time to stop because you have to be smoke-free for about three months I think and you don't want anything to delay your surgery . Good luck!!!!!!!! Have you decided where you are going?
