I live in Tampa FL. If you read my profile, you will see that since 2001, I have been trying to find a surgeon and hospital who both take Medicaid. I am willing to locate to KY if need be. I'd go to the moon!!! I found ONE surgeon who seemed to have everything going for him... I got a surgery date (Nov 7, 2005) but at the last moment I was cancelled. Even though I spent money that ws loaned to me in the thousands getting to and from Ft Lauderdale w/ lodging (500) miles away), I felt like it was REALLY GOING TO HAPPEN! After a lot of bobbing and weaving on the part of the surgeon's office since last November, they assured me that surgeries would resume Feb 1st. Well, now they don't know anything! I am not being re-scheduled in the forseeable future. They don't know why. Someone emailed me yesterday and said KY was the best place to get WLS with Mediciad. Does anyone know about this? I just need to get as much information as possible - as soon as possible. I am sick and desperate and fear that if something isn't done soon, well, you know... Thanks in advance for your help. Take care everyone, Trish from Tampa

I live in Kentucky myself and have Medicaid. There is a group of doctors in Louisville that does the surgery and Norton hospital is the facility. The number for one of the most sought out doctors is as follows: 812-282-3930 This number is for Dr. Shina So far Medicaid has paid for all of my testing, and I have been told there shouldn't be aby problems with the surgery itself. You just have to show you have at least 2 comorbidities (diabetes, sleep apnea, etc.). I wish you the best of luck on this journey, if you need anything, feel free to email me at [email protected]. God Bless!

Hi Angie, Is the KY medical card a supplement to Medicaid? I don't know anything about how it works in KY vs. FL. It seems like Medicaid has turned into pure hell in FL, thanks to our lovely Governor, Jeb Bush, *****cently authored new legislation that would deny benefits, in the form of a cap on services. Once you pass that cap, to hell with you -- just crawl off in a corner and die, because there are no more state medicaid funds allotted for you. That's how Fl Medicaid works these days. Anyone who wants to check out the facts, read this: http://www.medicalnewstoday.com/medicalnews.php?newsid=32390. It's truly appalling! Thanks for writing, Angie! I didn't mean to go off on a rant. Take care, Trish
