I was wondering has anyone else ever did a few days of liquids, protiens to kickstart your weight loss when it has slowed down? I started doing just protien shakes and liquids 4 days ago and have lost 10 pounds. My surgeon recommends (well, he recommends full liquids I think, soups, etc.) doing it for 5-7 days. So far I feel great, not even really hungry. Of course, in place of a meal I am doing a protien shake. I drink mine hot with splenda, tastes just like hot chocolate. I am seriously thinking of continuing this a few days past that 5-7 day mark. I have heard of people doing liquid diets for 14 days before a lap surgery. I had open so I didn't do liquids before my surgery. What do u all think? As long as I am feeling good, energized, it shouldn't hurt anything, right? Ange 313-165-150? P.S. I am still taking my prisolec, vitamins, calcium, iron, and supplements (zinc and biotin for my hair loss, my surgeon knows I take zinc and biotin, I always ask before starting any new meds of any kind.)

My sister had a lap bypass the week before Thanksgiving. She weighed almost 400 pounds and had to lose 50. She was on a protein shake diet for 6 weeks and was fine.

Hi Joyce, wow, my brother in law was like that. He had to go on liquids for 2-4 weeks before his lap surgery with Dr Geller. He lost around 50 before surgery. His surgery was Thanksgiving also..What a coincidence. My aunt had her surgery with Dr Wiess last summer, she seems to really like him.. Thanks Ange

I have tried to stay on a liquid diet the past few weeks....I went about 4 days with only liquids....then the smell of food.....OMG...I am ADDICTED to food....I can say NO to it as long as I dont smell it cooking...which is hard to do when your family wants BBQ ribs and things like that...how do you stop from getting hungry and just want to eat the house out??? My eyes are definately bigger than my stomach, but I still have trouble saying no to solids...even the ones that are healthy.

Its hard for me sometimes too, but I have renewed determination and will power since I have only 15 pounds until I hit my person goal before my plastics. I am only 5 pounds from Dr Shinas goal, but I am wanting to see my goal and have gotten impatient. The scales have barely been moving but since starting this liquid diet 5 days ago I have lost 12 pounds. I am going to stay on it for a few more days as long as still feel good and energized...

I have a question for you since you are almost at your goal...did you have frequent plateaus throughout your weightloss...i started at 356 11/10/05 and today 278...but ive been hanging there for two weeks now. Any advice on how to get the weight loss moving again. I have found that foods i was eating (also known as diet foods, low calorie, etc.) dont work. If i eat a well balanced meal the weight loss continues??? I'm confused because i thought we were suppose to be training ourselves to eat lite and now when i do the weightloss stops???? Can you help me?

Well, I don't know who your dr is or how he/she told u to eat, but I can tell u what I have done that has helped me. My surgery was almost 11 months ago and I haven't really had too many plateaus. Some months I lost faster and more, then others I lost 5-10 pounds a month, that has been the past few months. My dr, Mark Shina, tells us when we have surgery that we are to measure each meal in a 2oz cup, 3 meals a day and at least 64oz of something sugar free. The first 5 months I had only lost 70 pounds and I wasn't happy with that because I knew if I had been measuring correctly I could have lost more. So, I started measuring, eating only baked, grilled meats, cheese cubes. I also started measuring my liquids. I made sure I got 80-100oz of something sugar free a day. My weight loss really sped up. I saw my dr again 3 months after doing this and I had lost another 50 pounds. But eventually even measuring sometimes my weight loss is very slow. What I am doing now is a liquid diet to get things rolling again and they are, I am losing 2 pounds a day. I was eating my 3 small meals a day, 2 protiens and then my liquids. For this liquid diet all I am doing is adding protien shakes in place of my meals. I plan on doing this at least for another week. I am so close to my first goal I can taste it...Its hard, very hard because the head hunger is there, but I have will power and detemination that I am going to get to my goal and speed up my slow weight loss. My family ate at KFC yesterday and I just sat there with them. The smells were driving me nuts, but I made it. Its hard, but oh so worth it. I hope this helps. I know I see a lot of different people posting about getting back to basics and basically that is what I am doing with the liquids. If u can do it, u will restart your weight loss. Email me privately if u want to chat or more info. Hugs and good luck Angela [email protected]
