Info about hospitals and costs in western kentucky

I had my mind made up to have RNY bypass surgury after attending a seminar in Lexington but found my insurance would only cover banding. Can anyone recommend a surgeon or a hospital for the banding operation?

David, what seminar did you attend in Lexington? I would imagine they provide the band as well. Most surgeons I am familiar with do either surgery

I went to Center for Weight Loss Surgery at Saint Joseph East in Lexington KY. My understanding from the seminar and their website is that they only do the RNY proceedure but I am going to doublecheck now that I've found out that my Insurance will cover only the banding. Out of pocket cost of the RNY is around $15000 if I choose to self pay

Drs. Weiss and Oldham are the only surgeons in the greater Lexington area offering lapbands at this time.

Drs. Weiss and Oldham in Georgetown perform the lapband operation. Their next seminar is February 23rd at the Embassy Suites in Lexington (on Newtown Pike) at 7:00 pm. They also have a seminar on February 24th at 11:00 am at Georgetown Community Hospital, suite 270 I believe.

Yep, the Center for Weight Loss at St Joes only does RNY. They do not do the lap banding surgery.

I learn something new every day..I didn't know they don't do bands at St. Joe's

David, I noticed you have Anthem. Anthem approved me for RNY surgery last Nov. My surgery was postponed until after the first of the year and by that time my carrier had changed to Humana. There were actually fewer hoops to jump getting approved by Anthem than Humana. I now have a surgery date with Humana coverage. It wasn't an easy trip but I'm ready for March 13th. I am going to Vanderbilt WL Center in Nashville. It's 112 miles from Nashville to Madisonville and the Dr.'s are wonderful.
