Please Help Question About Norton Hospital

I am currently on list to get Gastric Bypass Surgery at Norton Hospital. My insurance is Medicaid. I have heard that because Norton is not center of excellence that Medicaid will not approve, is this true? If so are there any centers of excellence in Ky that accept Medicaid for the Gastric Bypass Surgery. I am starting to freak out. Thank you for any help.

Hi Keisha, From what I understand from the board here about Medicaid, your correct. St Joseph East in Lexington KY is a COE. They done a wonderful job for me.

I have Medicaid and I had my RNY at Norton. I think you may be confusing Medicaid with Medicare....Medicare only approves the center for excellence.....but unless the law changed with Medicaid as well as Medicare....Norton is an acceptable hospital. I am in need of a revison, and Norton is where I am currently seeking the revison, but I have Medicaid and was not told they could not do the surgery on my appointment Feb 28th. Let me know if anyone finds out anything different on this. Medicaid and Medicare are two separate insurances ( unless the law changed on that too....)

Hello There I too had my surgery at Norton's and I have medicaid, and I had doctor Allen, and they payed for everything....Medicaid is very good, unless it has changed I had my surgery in Oct. 2004, I have lost 197 and I weighed 460....Very happy with results...Good Luck

Hi Keisha. My name is Virginia (Jenny for short). I'm currently in the process of having Gastric Bypass at Nortons. My surgeon's name is Dr. J. Rodriguez. He is wonderful...very upfront with the risks, very realistic. I also have Medicaid and its all good. Norton's hospital accepts Medicaid and they are a wonderful hospital.
