Reimbursement

Hi all, I have my first consultation for Jan. '08 and I was just wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for MB Health to refund the flight costs. I know it cant be submitted until I return but I'm hoping to have the refund back right away as to book my next flight asap. Thanx, Amy.

Hi Amy, I'm a Dr. Starr patient. I was able to get my reimbursement for the consult flight fairly quickly. They refused to cover the flights for the required s.w., nutritionist and internist. I will also have to cover the cost of the pre-surgery consult flight. It really upsets me that they will not cover all the required flights. It would be different if the government was willing to fund a WLS surgeon (there is one trained and ready to start here in Manitoba) but they would rather ship us out. It's a real problem for me to come up with the money but you can't have the surgery without going through the steps! If you are being paid for all of your flights, I would be interested to know. They wouldn't pay for my additional flights either.It has cost me a small fortune so far and i haven't even got to surgery yet It took three weeks for me to get reimbursed for my flight and they don't refund taxes from the flight.

I only had to see the doctor once and thats it now. I was not required to see any other. I had my consult and was given a surg date and thats it. Its funny how doctors all do it so differently.

What was your doc's name? Did you have gastric or band? I'm looking at gastric. Can you walk me thru start (md doc referL) to finish (incl payments?) much apprec...

I am seeing Dr Nohr in Medicine Hat. And he did not ask me to come back for any reason before surg. So I guess I am on my own to seek out a dietician and my family dr is doing my pre op. So the only expense I had was my consult flight.
