Baltimore Walk From Obesity 10/20

The Baltimore Walk from Obesity will be held 10/20/07 at the Camdem Yards Sports Complex.  There are 2 walks to chose from- one is 1 mile and the other (for those that are further post op) is 3 miles.  There will be vendors, lots of fun, appropriate snacks.  This event is for everyone- preop, post op and families.  Stan Stoval of WBAL TV is the master of ceremonies.

Since its inception, the Walk from Obesity has raised more than $1.6 million to support research and educational programs on behalf of all of those affected by this disease.  We are hoping to raise at least $25,000!!!

Many participants walk on behalf of those unable to do so, because obesity has stolen their mobility, dignity, hope or life.

The ASBS Foundation and Obesity Action Coalition's Walk from Obesity was established to give hope to those needing it most.

Walkers raise money by asking friends, family and co-workers to sponsor them. In addition to walker income, funds are raised through sponsorship, matching gifts, corporate contributions and other fundraising activities.

The funds raised through this event support the ASBS Foundation and the Obesity Action Coalition's independent educational missions and fund programs focused on research, education and advocacy for all those affected by obesity. St Agnes will also hold its annual reunion following the walk. To register for the walk, please go to www.walkfromobesity.com  Checking is at 8am and the walk kicks off at 915am. Please feel free to email me for further information. Cathy Carr-Dadin RN Bariatric Coordinator- St Agnes Hospital [email protected] Open RNY 11/99 -180lbs!!!

I just wanted to put a question out here. I had my surgery a year ago 8/18/06 and it has changed my life. It is amazing. I do have support and a support group in my area so I am very happy about that. I would love to do some of the things like the support groups ect... with  St Agnes. Dr Averbach saved my life and gave me a life. My problem is I don't drive in Baltimore or DC for that matter. I would love to get together and meet new people as well as maybe find someone who is going to any of these things that wouldn't mind me riding along. I live near the Bay Bridge  in the Annapolis area so Arnold, Annapolis,Severna Park ,Glen Burnie, Crofton and that area are places I could meet someone. If anyone goes to any of these things and wouldn't mind me tagging along please email me and we can exchange phone numbers and get to know each other. Thank you so much. Laurie

Another idea to consider is taking the Light Rail into the city- no problems with parking etc. Bariatric surgery also changed my life- or should I say, it gave me a life.  I went from 340lbs down to 160.  I'm nearly 8 years post op.  It allowed me the privledge to work with others to help them with their journey. I do want to stress- this is not a "St Agnes" walk- this is for all of us- and for those we know that for one reason or another won't be able to walk- through insurance issues, fear of surgery, or for those that this disease took much too early.   I hope to see many of you there. Cathy :)

Hi Cathy:   Just wanted to let you know that GBMC is getting a team together:  They are supposed to contact you today with a team name  at least thats what Sloane said last night.   Can you post it on the Maryland board when they contact you.  I cann't believe the changed I have seen in just 10 weeks.  I should have listened to you and Tricia years ago: but as you said many times until I was ready there was no pushing me into it.   Anyway I will be there on the 20th.  I am exercising 5-6 times a week so I am sure I can handle the 1 mile:  might have to try for the 3 miles;  but we shall see.   .   Darla   PS your wedding pictures are beautiful.

We can post the team information as soon as they have a name.  Please have them email me and I will forward the information so you can have an official team! I'm so happy for you and your success!  You are so right though- you have to do this surgery when you are ready!  I can't wait to see you! Cathy PS:  I've got a great hubby- met on Match.com.  Who'd have believed it?  LOL
