Sorry that your boss did that to you.  As far as going back to work, it really varies. It pretty much a personal decision. It all depends on what you will be doing and how much physical work is involved. I am a teacher, but I also have a full time aide that works in my room. She was aware of my surgery and I went back the next week. Mainly because the kids need stability. My aide was GREAT!!! She did almost everything that first week or two. I appreciated it so much.  I don't know what kind of work you do, but before I was a teacher, my first job was nursing. We would assume that a normal surgical patient would resume most activities by 6-8 wks post op. I would think that by 8 wks out you should be back fairly well. But again, it just depends on how you heal, and your line of work.  Best wishes

Sorry that you have to go through this. I also work in retail. I went back to work 12 days post-op. I did no lifting, and no prolonged standing for my first 2 weeks back. Now, I lift what I feel comfortable with, and stand, bend etc. for  my entire day (I'm the front end manager, I'm all over the place). If you are unable to do normal activity after 2 months, you might want to discuss this with your surgeon. I don't know your entire medical history, if there are other factors. But, I'm not aware of gastric bypass causing you not to be able to have  normal levels of activity. Unfortuntely, your employer is not required by law to hold a position for you when you go out sick. I think it's very extreme to replace you quickly. How many days were you out?  I did have to request a leave of absence, just to be out for the 12 days that I was out. But, it was approved without question, and my job was secure the entire time. I have been in my current position for about 18 months now. If you want to stay in retail, you might consider a larger company. I've just found them to be a little more fair overall. When there are more people working there, more people are available to help you when you are there, and take up the slack when you are sick. Good luck!
Hugs!

Thanks for the infro I have been at my job for 8 years this June  I am a Pharmacy Clerk/Tech  that this job I would have been standing or siting.  Which I knew that I would be fine with my Doctor But when I found out she moved me to the other store doing a completely different job which was alot of bending over which I was not to do  that much, but oh well, I was not even off 12 weeks about 9. So I will just find another job maybe something different.  Thanks alot.
