Hello All,  I was scheduled for my surgery on May 27, at Johns Hopkins Bayview in Baltimore, my dr is Steele.  After 4 hours in OR preped for Surgery they cancelled my surgery.  I understood she had been in surgery for 8 hours.  Well yesterday i went back they preped me for surgery took me back and their were problems and they cancelled, i came out with two black eyes and the whites of my eyes are gone they are completly bloody.  I was wondering if any one else has had such problems. I am going to give it one more try if this does not work i will just chalk it up to not meant to be.  Any feed back would be appreicated, I look like death and my family is pretty upset.

I am sorry you had such problems!!  Did they give you any idea of what went wrong?   Did they put you out to sleep and all?  Did they say you had food in your stomach or anything?  Perhaps instead of giving it one more time with that Dr it might be time to go to someone new?    Your post really did not state why they cancelled your surgery after such drastic measures I would have hoped they would have let you know what went wrong to make your eyes black and your whites red.  Please take care. They are not sure what happened to cause the eye problems.  They surgery was cancelled because they had put me to sleep but could not be the tube down my throat.  My wind pipe collapsed and start to sweel.  The cheif of Aniethisa was in the operating room and wanted to continue but the DR cancelled the surgery.

Did they provide any advice as to follow up?  Perhaps find out why your wind pipe swelled up.  Is this what happened the first time too?

No the first time i never made it into surgery.  I spoke to the anethisaocilst today and we discussed the fact that i have sleep apena and weight crushing my throut.  They sugguested i not be knocked out until after the tube is set in place.

I am sorry to hear that.   Maybe they can give you something to relax you prior to putting the tube in.  If the Anethisogist feels that will work and you are willing.  It might be worth it. Do you have alot of excess weight to lose?   That is what you have to think about.  I was 320 lbs  when I had surgery on May 23 rd and have lost 22 lbs since, so it was worth it for me.   Please keep us posted on your next surgery date and what you decide Terri
