Thoughts on New Orleans...
I'm glad to hear that you were able to enjoy some parts of NO. I imagine that it would be challenging to stick to a healthy diet while down there. In fact, I'd chosen to go to NO before just because of all the great food.
I've been down there twice before, my first time as a lone traveler. I was 26 and fearless. But,honestly, I had the time of my life. My second visit was during Mardi Gras....I came home with 5 plastic grocery bags of beads....and I earned every single one of them.

i keep waiting and hoping for maryland to play in a bowl game down there. i think that would be an awesome trip because so many of our friends would be down there at the same time. i've never taken a trip to a city outside of maryland without going with someone. i'm sort of intrigued at the idea now.
I once took a three month trip across country by myself. I did it all by train, stopping whever I wanted, for as long as I wanted, as long as the conclusion of the trip was within a 90-day window of the start date. I did the southern loop of the US going out to California, and the northern loop returning to DC. It was an amazing trip. Because I had very little money, I stayed at youth hostels (not just for youth, everyone!), where a bed was about $7.00 a night, ate a lot of peanut butter sammiches, and met a lot of people in the same boat as me.
This trip amounts to one of my most proud events....that I did it, did it by myself, and had the time of my life doing it.
