2 week post op!

I had my two week post op appt with Dr. A yesterday and I've dropped and unbelievable 25 LBS!!!!  I'm so excited.  I know it won't be this easy for to long, but I'm going to make the most out of this time.

Eating is difficult at times, feels like things get stuck and once that happens then I'm done.  NUT told me I could do cooked veggies now.  I specifically asked if I could do Califlower and cheese and she said yes, I've been dying for veggies.   So I ran out and got califlower and man that didn't work.  Got stuck and just sat there till it worked its way up.    First time that has ever happened since surgery.  So I guess I'll back down a bit.  Anybody else experience troubles with new veggies?

Hi christy!  Forst, WOOHOO!!!!  congrats on your 25 pounds gone forever!!!!!  Secondly, You have to cook those veggies to DEATH........for me, I'd rather have raw veggies so I didn't eat veggies (aside from having tomato juice early on).......I didn't start eating veggies until I was on regular food.  because I was badly craving salads.  Now I can eat a pretty hefty sized salad because it all mushes down to nothing and it's practically water anyway.

Make sure you cook those veggies and when you think they are cooked to death, cook them longer....about to when they fall apart.  and when you eat them, you still need to chew chew chew until you can't chew them anymore.  There's just so many different factors that are involved when we eat that could make us throw up.

Thanks Aaron, maybe I'll try again and cook them longer....lots longer.

I can't wait until I can have a salad again.  I probably used to eat salads 4 days a week for lunch and at least 3-4 nights with dinner.  I really miss a good salad.  I keep looking at that bottle of dressing in the fridge and thinking some day.......

chew chew chew and chew summore LOL  but really it squishes down pretty far.  Think of it this way when you cook raw spinach in a pan.  it takes a HUGE bag of spinach to cook down to make a plate full.

Hi Christy!!!

WOW!!  25 pounds is FANTASTIC!!!!!

Yeah, eating is definitely an experiment at this stage.  I agree with everything Aaron said about cooking veggies to death.

However, since you like cauliflower, here's a good dish:

Fresh or frozen cauliflower, cooked to death and pretty much mashed to death
Garlic
Salt
Pepper
Cream cheese
Milk

Just add the spices to taste and add cream cheese and/or milk a little at a time until you get a mashed potato-like consistency!!   Yummy!!!

Hope this helps a little!!

Hugs,

Tia

Thanks Tia.

That receipe sounds interesting may have to try it.  One question though....we're allowed to have cream cheese?

Well, we're not talking a whole block of it, just about 1 tablespoon.  Plus, they make fat free and low fat, so you can improvise.  It just seems to add some creaminess/tanginess to the cauliflower.

But YES, we are ALLOWED to have anything once we're further out.  That's when the hard part - healthy decision making, kicks in.  But stay creative - makes it much more interesting and easy to get your protein in.
