Aww, sweetie!  I'm so sorry you're going through this and if you don't recall... I can totally relate!!  I occaisionally take either Miralax or Doculax.  I also need to take Fiber tabs and stool softeners every day.  (Due to my pain meds, it's an ongoing issue for me)  Yes, walk, sip, walk, sip, walk, sip.  You've got to get enough water and avoid getting dehydrated!!

Please call me or email me and let me know how you're doing!  With any question or just to vent.

I would have emailed you sooner, but I had a REALLY bad week (was back in Holy Cross Hosp Tues-Wed ... we were prob on same floor!!) and then company this weekend for my Dad's 80th BDay.  But that doesn't mean I wasn't  thinking of you!

I'm here, a phone call or email away, OK?

Hi Heather!  So sorry to hear of your complications and surgeries this year.  It is scary each time we go under anethesia, I know I've been under 4x this year myself.  I too am dealing with hair loss, and have since August.  I've been taking 2000 mcg Biotin a day since my VSG.

Two days before my revision hip replacement surgery in Oct. I cut my hair shorter to help with breakage (and because it was looking like an old thin scraggly broom.  My hairdresser recommended Nioxin which you apply directly to the scalp.  She swore it's helped several of her customers so I figured I'd give it a try.  I honestly have noticed after two weeks or so no more broken hairs on my pillow each morning, although washing my hair it still comes out more than I'd like.  I'm hoping the continued use of both Biotin and Nioxin will promote hair growth as well.... time will tell!

Best wishes to you hun!  I already bought a wig, but so far haven't used it.

So sorry to hear that you're going through all of this!  And yes, this is exactly the place to come vent.  And I know it's frustrating, but even if you do have to get a shot every other week isn't that better than a couple a day with diabetes?  Not to mention the other co-morbitites that would also come with continued morbid obesity?

Please try to remain positive and proud of about what you have accomplished!! Go into this new medical challenge ready to do whatever you need to do to be there for your family in the future!!  Enjoy (even if you have to fake it) your family vacation and like wonderful family memories for your children.

If you are seriously getting depressed, then seek help for that, ok? Come here to vent, we're here for you! But don't ruin your families Thanksgiving and vacation.

Best wishes to you for a speedy recovery and a wonderful holiday that inspires you and reminds you they're worth fighting and surviving for.

Tom,

I'm so sorry for your struggles.  I wanted to mention to you about the scanners, the TSA stuff, etc.  I travel for business sometimes as many as 5 or 6 round trips a month.  I don't pay attention and get into the line with the full body scanner at BWI a lot.  It really isn't a big deal. The reports about excess radiation, the demands for boycotts, etc. are really blown out of proportion.  Personally, I'd rather go through the scanner than have a pat down, even if I had to go through it 12 times over the month.  And many of the airports don't even have ONE yet, let alone enough to up the odds that you definitely will go through it.  At BWI, there is no more than one at each security checkpoint in A, B and D terminals, and that's because it was a test airport.  I hope it won't worry you too much and that you can try to enjoy your vacation and deal with things when you return.

Heather,

I didn't really start losing my hair until I was about 10 months out.  It's been an ongoing problem because of being hospitalized in January and June of this year with bleeding ulcers, and the resulting series of endoscopies (anesthesia).  I've been taking the hair skin and nails vitamins which have 3.000mg biotin PLUS I've done a bunch of research online about it.  I've read that bamboo silica is good to take as well as horsetail, although the bamboo is better.  Unfortunately I haven't been able to find the bamboo silica in the stores, so I'll be ordering some online.

Also, check out this link.  There's some really good information on here>  gastricbypasstruth.com/life-after-gastric-bypass/hair-loss-a fter-gastric-bypass-tips-for-losing-less-and-regrowing-more- faster/.

Good Luck!  It's a struggle to be taken day-by-day!

Heather

We had a great support group in Crofton but they stopped having it. I would love to hear about all of your experiences and get support. I need to make a choice about surgery. Please let me know what you all decide.

Crash, I am sorry for all your pain. I think this is why I am so scared to make the leep for WLS.  I hope you can find some peace & acceptance with your WLS.  I also hope you go on the vacation. Maybe that would help you. The TSA stuff is not something I look forward to either. What a big mess. Why would uyou need shots?   Is that B-12 or something else. I hope I  am not being to nosy. Take care and hang in there. Have a nice holiday !

Hello ~ I am more in the beginning stages of the process with Kaiser.  I would like to join a support group closer in than Holy Cross as I live in Bowie.  It is such a journey after work trying to make it up there for their existing support group.  So count me in.
