This is a great start! Thank you very much for the insight and it's comforting to know that I'm not the only one that has this problem!

Thank you!!!

This is a tough one.  Isn't it?   I had the same experience.   If you saw negative info, stay away!!!!   There are lots of Drs in Mexico.

I actually am getting the switch and one Dr kept on coming up again and again and people who seemed to know what they are talking about picked him.   They teach the switch too, so that made me feel better.  I'm paying a premium for that Dr. about 2k more, but I figure, I want the best doctor in MX.

FWIW, I'm going here. http://mexicalibariatric.com.mx/  and they are one of he best, if not the best in MX from my research, but they are also a litlte more.  For a Sleeve, I would think the are 1k more from what have seen.

Also, I wrote a long reply to the same question here.

Good luck

Topic: RE: Finding a PCP

I'm so sorry you PCP gave you a hard time mine did too. . I don't have a Dr for you (sorry), but I went through the same thing in San Francisco and I was bummed and freaked.  I posted on this forum and some others and did not get a response.  I did get a response in a FB group, but the Drs name was not posted, just the clinic.

But, the way I actually solved it was by going to one of the local Weight loss Drs group.  And there was a Dr there who has the surgery.  I tracked her down and then, I went to see her and asked.

I think the other way to solve this issue is to pick a Dr. in Mexico and ask for local references.   And then, ask those people who they used.

I know this is not a simple answer and I'm sorry.  I would post on all the forums out there and every FB group you can find.

I really wish I could help more, because honestly, this was to me the hardest part of the process and I felt alone and lost.  You are not alone.

Good luck!

Topic: Finding a PCP

 Good morning,

My name is Cynthia and I'm 24!

My insurance denied to cover VSG because my BMI is 34.5 and I don't have a comorbidity. However, I have a family history of High Blood Pressure, Diabetes and, High Cholesterol. So it's not a matter of "IF" it's a matter of "when." I've tried loosing weight on my own (Low-Carb, Weigh****chers, Herbalife, Phen, Personal Trainer etc)  and my highest weight was 289 but I've been stuck at 220 for almost 3 years!

Since I was denied coverage by my insurance then my next option was going to Mexico, I have relatives and friends that have done this procedure in Mexico so I'm doing my research to find a doctor that fits my needs.

My question is how do I find a PCP that will be willing to help me with Post-op follow ups? My current PCP has already said no. Does anyone have any recommendations in the Chicagoland area?

Thank you!

Topic: How to choose?

Well I thought I had it all figured out and booked today but then I saw some negative information about the doc I had wanted to use, and am now trying to find a different option.

Who did you use?  Why did you choose them?  Are you happy with your decision?

Any information would be appreciated so I can do my own research on your recommendations.  Thanks so much!

I am having the roux-n-y in exactly 2 weeks from today with Dr. Garcia through Tijuana Bariatrics... I've read good things on him and have gotten some feedback from people who went to him. I'm excited either way.

Is she still doing surgery?

Thanks

I also did a research on her, and since a live close to Tijuana, I know a few people over there, and she has had patients with a lot of complications, they told me an 18 year old patient died on her internal bleeding, so I discarded using her, instead I used Dr. J. Lopez, they have a great team, they care about their patients, and my results are great.... never had any complication!!!

Yes Dr. Pompa is still doing surgeries. I actually had a surgery with her last Thursday. From my understanding she has never had a death. You cannot be a surgeon of excellence with any death on your hand. Most of her patients come from Canada. her complication rate is one of the lowest which is 0.01% which is 1-10,000.
