Topic: Help, I'm new!

Hey y'all! I've just decided I want to get VSG. My insurance won't cover in the states so I've decided to go to Mexico. Honestly, I feel pretty confident about it, but I'm still nervous about a few things.
First, anyone hear of Dr. Jesus Lopez Dominguez? Personal experiences with him?

Second, I'm looking about going through Bariatric Pal MX. They seem pretty great-- a good mix of inclusive and affordable. Any reviews or experiences?

Lastly, I am a 21 year old college student have very little money. I make minimum wage (as a Resident Assistant) so I can't cover the costs on my own. I'm a little nervous to take out a loan but I don't know how else I could pay. Any reputable companies that give loans you would recommend? Bariatric Pal recommends United Medical Credit. Any info on this company. I just do NOT want to get scammed.

Any help would be so appreciated.

I appreciate your honesty and all your post. I am still trying to decide on a surgeon and it's nice to have the information about your experience with your doctor. Thank you! Keep posting and keep up the good work!

Topic: HELP! Any Experience Dealing with The Obesity Control Clinic and/or Dr. Ariel Ortiz?

Can anyone share their experiences in dealing with The Obesity Control Clinic in Tijuana?   I am in the process of scheduling my surgery with them, but some red flags have popped up for me in regard to payment.  First of all, their site states that you can make your deposit by paypal or with a credit card.  I have had some bad experiences with paypal in the past, and chose not to make my deposit that way.  When I tried to use the option of paying by credit card, they would not accept mine.  I contacted my coordinator who then told me that they don't accept credit cards (because they have no way to do so) and that I could mail them a check if I didn't want to use paypal.  OK.  So then I had to write out a check, fax them a photocopy of it along with a photocopy of my ID, and then I mailed it certified, return receipt requested.  Once again, I was told that wouldn't be acceptable as the check would be going to PO Box in Coronado, CA (not Tijuana) so there would be no one to sign for it.  The address that was provided to me was a street address - not a PO Box.  This is all beginning to feel a little sketchy to me.  My family and I are making a huge financial commitment (a sacrifice, actually) to save this money in order to pay for the surgery ourselves - a task that will not be easy for us.

Please respond with any experiences you've had with this clinic - it would be greatly appreciated.

Im Glad I stumbled across your post, I plan on going to Puerto Vallarta for a vacation for my family, and while we are there, ill have my Surgery.  A couple things.... did the hospital have anywhere to eat there ? or did family members have to go outside? Did you have to choose that hotel, or could you go to another hotel?

Topic: RE: Considering Mexico Bariatric Center for your surgery? Yikes!

Can you mention where you went? New here perhaps there is a topic somewhere else for recommendations or is that frowned upon in this forum? Desperately need to consider surgery in Mexico. Thank you.

Well you can report what you want because the board as you say can not boot me off or can but have no reason to do so because I do not get KICKBACK as you say and I just do not want to keep wasting my time fighting with you for no reason. I do not know you and you do not know me. So feel free to do what you want and hope it works out for you. I dout that they are going to take me off just for talking about what a good doctor I had. That is what this is for and to talk freely about their up and down. So FEEL FREE TO DO WHAT YOU WANT. And until then please do not write be back. You are felling up my emails with pointless post thanks and have a good day.

please don't tell me what to do

Topic: RE: What to do before and after?

This is what I'm wondering too. I am about 15lbs away from a 40 BMI and otherwise perfectly healthy. Just got all my blood work back today - I don't have even one problem besides being fat and being sad about it. So, my insurance isn't going to cover me. In the meantime I've been looking at Mexico and while I'm actually perfectly at ease as far as the competency of the surgeons and quality of the hospitals goes, I'm worried about complications.

What happens if I spring a leak a week after I'm back here in NJ? Sure, I can go to the ER, but I'll also probably bankrupt my family.
