Just Not Hungry
I am 3 and half weeks post-op and I just started my pureed foods and I was so excited to get something in my mouth with some texture, but now that I can, I find that I am not hungry and I have to force myself to eat. Will it always be like this? Not that I am complaining about the weight loss or anything (28.5 lbs lost so far) but I just worry about getting nutrition in. I am taking 2 chewables though, getting about 3/4 of required protein and I am getting my water.
any help would be great
Thanks,
Jennifer
I am close to 9 months post op and sometimes I am not hungry, and sometimes I am. Honestly, I don't think about food like I use to, so I do need a "little gentle reminder" to sit down and eat. I don't consider "it will always be like this" because I'm still new at this.
For starters, rephrase "forcing" to fueling. Instead of looking at like you are doing something you "don't" want to do, consider the food you do eat like fuel for your body to keep it nourished to stay healthy.
I was concerned about nutrition but being so new, for me, they didn't seem to worry about it as long as I maintained my fluid intake for beginners. You have a "baby's tummy" now, so treat it with care. As far as nutrition, that comes in time with learning how to eat solid foods again. I do hope that part of your ongoing health care provides meeting with a dietician to discuss and evaluate your diet. I know for me, I was worried about that first lab test.
Not knowing how it would come out, I did not alter or do anything different - and it was fine. I take in the proper levels without worrying and as a beginner you will do just fine.
Remember to follow the post op diet instructions. I wish you success and hope that I have helped even in some small way.
Welcome to the losing side!!!

What you are experiencing is very common. I didn't get hunger pains until I was about 7 months out and prior to that I would often forget to eat or just get a bite of something and not want anymore. Make sure to get your water in, your vitamins and as much protein as you can (so you don't loose muscle instead of fat). Eventually everything will start to become more "normal".
Good Luck,
Mary
I liked teas, flavored - whether hot or cold.
I also drank Propel, and Sugar Free Kool Aid, plus I was able to drink decaf coffee that was not too strong. I also drank lots of Crystal Light, in weird flavors, and found that putting them in a blender with ice made them even better.
I also consumed enough jello to make me despise it the rest of my life- but I really dont mind it anymore.
Hope you find something each day that brings you sunshine

Good loss!! My experience is slightly weird. My Dr. calls me an oddity. I have not felt hunger since June 15, 2004 the day of my surgery. I also don't feel full. I get a hiccup and that is it fr me. If I get three then I have over done it and I will get rid of it.
Compact mushy protein is the way to go now. I hear people talk about the Stalone Pudding at health food stores. I haven't tried it but I understan it is good, packed and just right for the new GAP.
I remember forgetting to eat at times and feeling dizzy. I have learned that since we don't have a pylorus, we must fuel almost all day long to release nutrients "manually" into our system.
I hope this helps and that I didn't confuse you.

O.k........... I found a more tolerable way to get the protein in. I bought the pro-stat (cherry flavor) and I mix one oz of it with about 10 ounces of SF koolaid and its ok. One oz of pro-stat has 15 grams of protein. I also was able to eat about 1/2 to3/4 of a cup of roast today as well, but that is all I had for food. I feel though as long as I get my protein and my liquids in at this stage, I am doing pretty good.
