I absolutely LOVE chinese food, and I would like to get some chicken broccoli for lunch..eat mostly the chicken and carrots, maybe a piece of broccoli.. but I"m wondering if anybody has had problems with chinese food (take-out)???? I know the broccoli can make me gassy (although I haven't had any trouble in this area yet)..and the chicken isn't fried or anything... any advice on this???? Thanks!

Early on, I had some problems eating Chinese food, and then I realized what the problem was: I didn't chew it enough. The first time post-op I had Chinese food, it came back up. Since then, I've been able to eat it without problems, but make sure you eat it slowly and chew it well. At least that has been my experience. Good luck ... I love Chinese food. Eileen

Hi Kim: I have had problems with Chinese food from the beginning. I can't seem to keep the rice down. I know some other people on the board have had problems as well. I think every person is different and you are probably going to have to try it and see what happens. Michelle

That I one thing I do miss. I can not eat it. I don't know what it is. Too much fat, rice, sugar - have not figured it out yet. I just stay away from it. But I think you just have to try it and see what happens. Take care, Carey

I use to love it. However, it contains an ENORMOUS amount of SODIUM AND MSG (most do anyway) so, modify your order: LOW OR NO SALT NO MSG AND ABOVE ALL AVOID RICE...WHY? WELL, when consumed, it retains water, and then it expands, and may eventually stretch the pouch or MAKE YOU PUKE well, it did me. So I avoid rice at all costs now. Period. I do get HUNAN CHICKEN alot, have them add extra chicken for 1.00 more, and nitch the rice, and get it spicy. (your taste may vary) One meal can generally last me three days. I don't get anything fried, I haven't since WLS, but everyone tolerates foods differently. It's a 'LIVE AND LEARN' process and you'll know you can't eat it now, but maybe later. Just remember that their portions are HUMONGOUS to us, so watch how much you order and acutally eat!!!!!!!!!! One good lesson, use a salad plate when serving your portion no matter where. Stacey

Hi Kim! I am still quite a "newbie" but I can not yet tolerate Chicken and Broccoli from the Chineese place we order from. I have tried twice and have found myself praying to the porcelain goddess!! Needless to say I will try again a bit further out because that is one dish I absolutely LOVE. Good luck! Jennifer

Remember, Chinese food has MSG in it, so that alone would tend to make you bloat. Also, I heard that rice in the beginning is a "nono"! I think I was about 6 months out before I tried Chinese, and I was only able to handle a few bites...

Thanks Rhonda, I always order NO MSG when I order Chinese. My Nut told me I was cleared for all foods.. She actually told me to before I could ask that pasta and rice were fine to eat..just take it slow and chew... then if I can handle it it's fine. I still didn't eat any rice...(just what may have been stuck to a piece of the chicken).. but all went down well, no problems. I am still leary of the pasta and rice though.. just have heard too many bad stories about them.... I do think a key factor is chewing, chewing,chewing... for sure! Blessings, Kim
