things I've learned...surgery friday
Well, at last surgery is Friday. I have learned so much about my eating habits since I started in January. I has been hardest to get past the denial stage and let it be ok that I have had the following distructive behavours:
I eat to sedate myself, instead of calling a freind or doing a craft, I eat to put myself to sleep ....literaly. I have missed out on a lot of life because of this. I think the habit started at young age and until now had grown to be as much a part of my life as brushing my teeth everyday.
Sometimes I don't think about what I am eating or savor it, so I eat more to get more taste. Prevously I could woof down a cupcake, lick my fingers and be saying were did it go in a few seconds...previous solution...eat an other one. I've learned now to slow down and enjoy....and how fleeting eating junk is..so true a momment on the lips a lifetime on the hips.
So these are the two things I've learned about myself that I think are really going to help me be sucessful. That and having learned to eat better.
You know, being a lifetime fat person, when something as wonderful as this comes along creating it's little miracle just for me....it's very humbleing ...makes me want to kneel and be very very thankful.
Hi Linda,
It's amazing how much we can learn about ourselves as we go through this journey. It's more amazing how much and how quickly life changes after this surgery. I also am a lifelong (since age 8) overweight/obese person. The challenges start after surgery~between 6and 9 months after surgery (at least for me). At my last weigh in I was down exactly 200 pound's. Yes it's very humbleing. I do get on my knees and thank God every day for this life saving/ life changing surgery he gifted us with. I hope you do follow your want to "kneel and be very thankful". Congratulations on your surgery Friday. Soon you will be on the losers side and enjoying a whole new way of life.
God bless you,
Annette
Linda, you've got it right. What you've learned will help you to conquer this problem and stay on the losing side. If you don't train your brain to recognize where the problems lie, then it doesn't matter what kind of surgery you have, once you are able to eat, you will eat all the wrong things.
I see you have Dr. Foote. He's a real sweetie and I am so glad he did my surgery. I'll say a prayer for him and you on Friday. Maybe we'll meet at MMPC one day.
Hi Linda:
You've made some mighty important self-discoveries. I've always noticed that I'd often kept eating and eating and eating just to prolong the taste of something too. I was capable of packing away three giant Wesco apple fritters, even though I was stuffed to the max, I just wanted to prolong that flavor.
I just had my surgery with Drs. Foote/Kemmeter eleven days ago. I had the duodenal switch procedure, and they team operate on it. Dr. Foote is a wonderful man. You are in great hands with him. I felt that the staff at Borgess was outstanding too. If you have a nurse named Coral, tell her Julie from Ludington sends her best regards!! Good luck on your surgery Friday - I'll be praying for you.

Hi Linda....
Good Luck on your surgery Friday!!! How is your hubby doing? We met on 8/11 at MMPC during Carrie, Andy and Matt's presentation. I hope everything goes smooth and uneventful for you. We will be on the losing bench together! Hope to see you at MMPC again. You are in my thoughts and prayers for Friday.
