Surgery update & a question or 2.....

Ok so I'm getting somewhat excited now. Like I wasn't before? What???????????? I got a call today from the Pre-Admission Testing Nurse who got me all registered the 9th and I'm to be at the hospital on the 27th at 6am. I was elated to say the least. So I have a question. For anyone who has had an abdominoplasty and had to travel any distance at all............. I live about 2.5 hours from the hospital. When I've been discharged, will I be able to travel home in a car that long? Any comfort ideas like blankets or pillows perhaps? I would imagine I'll be fairly out of it for the ride and will handle it ok but just wanted your thoughts and input. Stacey W TT in 8 days

Stacey, Can't help you with the type of surgery you are having, but the hospital I was in was 2-1/2 hours away. From the hospital I got two little pillows (designed specifically for bariatric patients to hold on their stomachs at the hospital and during the ride home). You are more than welcome to use them if you like. Just let me know. Michelle

I've done some research and I find that TT patients generally do best lying flat in the bed of a pick up. With several bales of hay, of course, to keep them in place. It's best that they not go above thirty five miles an hour so they should stick to dirt roads. Sorry, I'm in a silly mood. If they vote that that is too much travel, come here. With Mom. And Lizziethecat. I'll bring a collection of pillows to Barix for you.

Stacey I'm surprised Jane didn't suggest you ride home horseback or have that pickup pull your horse in a trailer behind you. LOL I think you will be okay. Do ask for a pain shot just before they discharge you. Also ask the Doctor or Nurse if you should stop half way and walk a little bit. Have someone get your pain medication for you as soon as they can after you get home; so it's available when you need it. Sending my best wishes to you for a successful sugery. You will do great! you won't have any trouble. i promise. i hurt less on the ride home from my TT than i did on the ride home from my WLS. of course i drove home from my TT in a much nicer ride with a much better driver but that's another story for another day.

Just Jane: You are too funny. I tried to ask the owner of Junior if I could take him with me and ride him home but it's not possible. However, I will be riding home in a "nice" ride (Mom has a sweet car!) so I should be comfy and cozy. Just Jane, don't forget to wear your doctor halloween outfit. Anyone else that may wish to stop by please do!!! Or call. The number is toll free. One week away. And counting. Funny when I woke up this morning, I realized it's 1 week away. And I am not really worried...just curious I guess. With all the well wishes and people here who want me to ride home on the flatbed of a truck with hay.........I should be back to work in no time!!! Hi stacey...I am a nurse and worked on the med/surg floor before and you won't have any trouble riding that distance. We have sent pts home 5 hours away before after a major surgery. We just encourage them to have a pillow on their lap so they can hug it for support. Bring a blankie too.....I'll be praying for your quick recovery and good luck!
