I hate hospitals....
First and most important...thank you for your words of encouragement. You will never know how much they mean to me. Well, after I talked to the woman who told me that I have to pay the "out of pocket cost of 1000$" PLUS other, not related bills that I have with this hospital (1102.00), I spoke with Sister Betty, who is the patient advocate rep at the hospital. This is a catholic hospital. She told me that she would talk to sarah and then call me back. She rang me back about 1 hour later and said that Sarah would be calling me back tomorrow (now today) and Dorothy from my surgeons office would call me too. I waited until 10am this morning and couldn't take it anymore so I rang Dorothy from Dr. Sabers office and she knew nothing of the conversation with sister or Sarah. I told her what they told me and she was ANGRY! She told me to hold tight, stay on my pre op liquid diet, and she would call me back this afternoon. My fear is that this Sarah (devil child) from Borgess is going to cancel my surgery without telling me or discussing this situation any further. I cried the whole night, didn't sleep for squat, and just thinking about it crushes me. BUT I am a fighter, always have been. I am sure my mother in law would loan me the money if it came right down to it but I am so angry that they would do this to me that I am going to make that my last resort. i feel like they shouldn't be ABLE to get away with this. It sounds like you spoke to a person who is a collector in the billing department in the hosptial and they have no authority over cancelling patient surgeries. Plus you need to ask if they are a non profit hosptal because if they are non profit then they have to treat you or perform the surgery wether you can pay or not pay. Look into if they have charity programs and if you qualify for help. The only person who has the authority to cancel your surgery is your surgeon. Good luck Tricia
