What do you tell the skinny-folk?
Sweety I know exactly what you are going through. I had the same issues with some of my family members except they were not skinny
. My mom was 100% against me having WLS. My dad was for it as long as I was doing it for the right reasons. There was nothing I could say to change my moms mind. But after I had the surgery and about a month or two later she came around. She noticed how much more active I was. I got off my Cpap. She told me to be more aware of what I eat. Now that I read every label she tells me to stop. I'm 6 months out and down 80 pounds. I have not felt this HEALTHY in a very long time. For some people they just have to see the change before they can start to except it.

I heard the same stuff when I told some of my family, especially my mom. She was almost to the point, that if she could have physically restrained me she would have. I just told them that they are welcome to their opinion, it's just happens to be one that I don't share. I refused to listen to negativity, and after that they realized that I was gonna do what I was gonna do with or without them....of course "with" is always nice. After I took that stand, I didn't have any more problems and they have actually been supportive ever since. Know, that if they do or don't you will be fine anyway. All the best to you.

People who have never suffered from obesitiy and all that that entails really just don't have a clue. You can try to explain til you're blue in the face, but they never will truly understand. Even the friends and family that are supportive, I've found don't really get it. But what Kevin said is really a good response I think. Not that they'll really understand ........but it's at least a good answer. I agree that people just think you've never committed enough to a diet and exercise, etc. They just don't understand you're beyond that point.
