Any support groups in Monroe area?

I had my surgery at Barix in Ypsi, but was wondering if there were any support groups in Monroe?

I am from Monroe and don't know of any group here, but I attend an informal support group in Southland Mall, 3rd Thursday each month. We meet at the Big Boy restaurant. Someone posts an announcement each month.

Cool that sounds so much fun,,do they meet for lunch< and what do they usually discuss? How many attend usually? Cool cool cool,,I would love to go.......ty for the info...I will look for that.

Hi Frankie and Hi Melanie I am also from the Monroe area actually in Petersburg, I will be having my surgery on Tuesday November 7th. If we have enough of us we should start our own. Just an idea or atleast maybe sometime car pool. Take Care, Jackie G

I,m interested also, I actually live right in Monroe, but I work afternoons and only usually have weekends off....

My doctors office is in Wyandotte and he has a support group once a month. His office is on Biddle near downtown. www.bariatricsurgerycenter.com The next group is on the 28th. I drive about 40 minutes to get there but it is worth it since I love the group alot. Hope this helps. Suzanne

Hello I am the Program Manager and nurse for Dr. Steven Hendrick, Bariatric surgeon in Wyandotte Michigan. - mentioned by Suzanne in the post above. We do have an OPEN support group that means anyone is welcome, no matter where you had surgery. We actually have two meetings a month. The one Suzanne mentioned is the EVENING goup on the 4th Tuesday of the Month iat 6:30 pm. We also have a small DAYTIME group that meets on the 2nd Monday of each Month at 11:00 AM. Hi Melanie I'm the one that posts for the Southland Mall group on the 3rd Thursday of each month. As Frankie mentioned, we aren't a structured group with specific planned topics or anything, just lots of support, encouragement and ideas for each other. We have a really nice group of people and from meeting to meeting we usually average about 6 or 7 people...spouses, friends, SO's...all are welcome. We started our group just the way that was mentioned above...there were several of us looking for some friendship and support, so we just picked a date, time and place and started gathering...you might want to consider that option, too (but don't steal Frankie from us, please ) I have never been to the Wyandotte group, but I'm guessing it's a bit more structured, and that may be what you're looking for too...at any rate, you can be involved in as many support groups as you enjoy...I also go to one we started up in the Chelsea/Ann Arbor area. So go visiting, chat with the others close to Monroe about something down there...your options are endless!!! We just call ourselves the Downriver Support Group, our next meeting will be Nov. 17th, I believe...I'll post about a week early, then again a few days before... We'd love to meet you! Lizzie B

I would love to come Lizzie, and I "might" be able to come to the November meeting, that is the tentative date set to go south for Thanksgiving. I definitely want to be involved with a support group near me as I have children in the Monroe school district. The Southland mall is the mall in Monroe Michigan? Lol,,course there is only one mall but not sure if that is the "one". I have not been involved in any support group but the OH site. I check the Michigan boards daily so I will definitely keep up, because I find I need something a little more so to speak. OOps, I googled it and see its in Taylor, probably won't be able to come. That is my dilemma, I needed one closer to Monroe area as in Monroe!! Oh well,,ty anyway for the invite. I do live near Toledo and could go to a support group there...may post on the Ohio board...ty people!!
