Could someone help me out? I had my surgery (roux en y) done last Monday and I went home Wed. Today is Friday and I am sooo nauseous that I could care less if I eat or not. I was very gassy after surgery and that has dissapated some. It seems like every time I put something in my mouth, it just gets worse. Is this common? Even water makes me feel icky. Does anyone have any suggestions out there? thanks-jennie

Hi Jennie, I felt the same way for about the 1st week post-op. Had dry heaves so bad one day I was sure I was going to pop all my stitches. BUT I did not. What finally settled things down for me was to take a piece of a saltine no larger than the size of a #2 pencil eraser and put it in my mouth to disolve then swallow. Once that didn't seem to upset things in about an hour I tried another piece that was double that size then if that didn't upset things (which it didn't) I tried another and another until I was able to do this with about a 1/4 of the saltine. Most important is to not chew it and swallow it real fast but to let it disolve and then swallow. Within 48 hours I was feeling much better and then moved on to small pretzel sticks doing the same thing. Feel better soon...

There is medicine for this, and yes it is common after any surgery. Call your surgeon and ask for something for nausea. There is NO sense in suffering, because it can be helped easily. Wendy

Hope you feel better soon. Call your surgeon and let him/her know how you are feeling. You don't have to suffer with this. Be careful with carbs~you really don't want to get into that habit. Best wishes. God bless you, Annette
