Dr's office rudeness or perceived rudeness
I dont consider myself a person that nit picks, but I just recently called Dr. Sabers office to speak with his Insurance lady regarding some questions I have about Humana. The lady who answered the phone, asked me for the following the questions:
1. Is Bonnie expecting your call? I answer with no, but when i met her at the informational meeting she told us if we had any insurance question to feel free to call her anytime.
2. What is this regarding? I answer with, I have a specific insurance question for her.
She then tells me that she probably wouldnt answer the phone, and to leave a message for her.
I was so turned off by this conversation. Is this by chance an indication of what may take place in the future?
I think I will start looking for a new surgeon. Am I wrong for thinking this way?
I personally would call back, and ask to speak to Bonnie directly.
Do not answer any of the "receptionist's" questions, simply state you wish to speak to Bonnie and Please connect me.
If that is a problem, go to the office manager there. Speak your concerns and if that doesn't work, write a letter.
Hey, this is your life they are dealing with, and if you aren't happy, speak up. If you are turned off by just the insurance person, make sure the surgeon is WHO you want first and foremost. Office staff tend to be overworked, and are really busy sometimes, and may have a tendency to be rude to people they don't know. Keep calling and state your claim.
It's too early to search for a new surgeon and start all over again. Get in their faces and be persistant. It pays off!!!

Hi Curt,
Maybe she was having a bad day ~or~ some people are just like that. If you don't like the way they treat you after another try, I know an excellent surgeon with an excellent staff and medical team. They work out of the top hospital in the state of Michigan and one of the top 20 in the entire nation.
Let me know if you're interested. Best wishes.
God bless,
Annette

I agree with everyone else. Ask to speak with the insurance person or the office manager. Dr. Saber is an excellent Dr. He would not be happy with this conversation and I doubt if the office manager would be either. Sounds like a new kid on the block. Give it another try and see what happens.
Good luck and keep us posted.

Saber is my surgeon. He recently lost he nurse who usually handles all of this. I tell you this because it means that all calls are now routed to the general call center who handles calls for all of the surgeons. Please please please don't let their attitute
reflect on Saber. Bonnie does return calls and yes, Bonnie might not answer her phone but that is because she's working her hinny off to get insurance issues straightened out for current patients. I promise you that when she goes to bat for you, she'll work just as hard.
IMHO, Saber is WELL worth the a few dumb ducks. Try calling and asking for Kim - his fill in nurse (actually she's his general surgery nurse - Pat was his bariatric nurse and she's no longer there) and explain what your need is.
Have you met Saber? I was told that he didn't have any humor - I disagree. He shoots from the hip but I wouldn't choose anyone other than him. I know quite a few people who have had him and they all feel the same way. He's actually done two of my surgeries and I can't speak high enough about him.

I took what all of you said very serious, but I have always been one to listen to my gut. And my gut was very put off by the discussion I had with Dr. Sabers office. It wasnt exactly what she said, but how she said it.
I am one to spend my money locally, I feel it keeps our local economy strong. But after that discussion I called 2 other well known surgeons office to see about attending one of their informational meeting. Both offices I spoke with was more than willing to spend as much time talking to about whatever it was I asked.
Its not saying I wont have my surgery done locally, but if I go strictly by first impressions then I will be spending my money else wheres.
