Wonder about Mini-Gastric Bypass....

I posted this on the main message board too, but wanted to get your responses as well. Lately I've been hearing a lot about the mini gastric bypass. I guess actor Gil Garard had this and that's brought to the forefront. And so far, everywhere I find information about it, it says it's superior to RNY. I'm all set to go forward with Lap RNY, and now this is making me wonder. Does anyone knows much about this? Would appreciate any info or comments. Thanks.

Hi Patty, Wouldn't the mini gastric bypass be the same as the mircro pouch surgery???? I know when you have open ryn they make your pouich smaller than lap ryn. Good question. Good luck to you. DeAnn

Nope DeAnn - the Mini-Gastric Bypass and the Micropouch RNY are not the same thing. They have a totally different "stomach" and length of connection to the intestinal tract.

I actually know a lot about this. My last boss (who only done it cause she was jealous of me) went to texas and had it done. Insurance does not cover it, there are too many issues with it.....the biggest issue being that it has caused multiple stomach problems including severe ulcers. She didn't care which procedure she had and done no research.....it was a spur of the moment decision. Well at the beginning she lost so very slow......then ended up sick and lost the rest. I haven't seen her in a while, but heard she has had to have more surgeries to fix some complications. In my opinions, it's not a good way to go. Hugs Linda
