Whoever went through MMPC

hi Jamie-- I was reading through some of the older posts, as im not here very often...ive had 4 family members all have RNY with Dr. Baker at MMPC My brother had Dr. Baker...it took him about a year to get approved, but after he did, he had surgery and had to stay an extra few days because he had to be cut open, and he had a few complications with surgery... My aunt had hers about a month later, and she was only in the hospital for 1 1/2 days..she got to have hers laproscopically done tho... they both had their surgery at Spectrum Downtown (Butterworth), but now they do the surgery at Blodgett.... a family friend had hers this last year, and also did great and was out within 2days.... and most recently, this last July 17th, my mom had the surgery also...i was kind of shocked when she was discharged after just 24hrs....but she did great, and was back to work after just a week (half days first week back-just in case)....she just had her 6mo post-op appointment last friday and was at 224lbs....down 106.4obs lost....i cried cuz ive never seen my mommy that little...and then cried again as my dad called one of their long-distance friends to tell them how proud he is to say that this is the first time she's ever weighed less then he....we invested in Kleenex company that day....lol and so now its my turn....im waiting to buy insurance to start my process...as my work insurance does not cover it...im having orientation on Feb 12th at MMPC at 11am...i wish you luck Jamie....hopefully the two of us will be on the losing side soon..lol ~jenny~

Thanks for all of the good info Jenny! I wish you lost of luck and a speedy process. I actually am already approved for the DS but my insurance has a lifetime cap of $7500. So it has taken me a lot of surgeons and shopping around to see who would work with this. Seems that MMPC actually honors contracts with my insurance so hopefull I will be having surgery sooner than later. I am wating to get my labs back so I can be scheduled to see the surgeon and behavioralist asap. Keep me posted on your process and I will do the same. Good luck!

My surgery is scheduled with Dr Kemmeter. Can anyone describe the bariatric center at Blodgett for me? After surgery are you in a ward or a private room until you're discharged? And did you all get to leave the same day if you had the lap band surgery?
