still freezing
Okay, when does it stop. Not Michigan winters, I know they stop about mid-June. When will I ever be warm again. I am at goal. I am not really losing anymore, I go up and down a couple of pounds, and am happy where I am. BUT, I AM TIRED OF BEING COLD. I dress in multiple layers, I wear wool socks to work, I hide under a down comforter with a heating pad at night when I watch tv.
I feel like my metabolism should have equalized by now. This is my second winter since my surgery. I expected to feel cold last year, but had hoped this year it would be better. I exercise very regularly, and this is the only time I feel warm. As most all other MO people, I was always the hot, sweaty uncomfortable one. Now I am the normal freezing person in the room. And it is physically painful, that is why I'm complaining.
So, someone who is longer post-op than me, does it ever get better?

Debra,
I'm a little behind you post op, July 05 but I can tell you that this winter something kicked in for me. As corny as this sounds, the more protein I do, the warmer my body is lately. I mean, I wear jeans, and a top to work, and just a bomber jacket and a scarf and I'm fine.
At home, the temp is 68 and I don't hardly ever freeze. What I did have to do when it first got so cold, is dip into the thermal undies. Then suddenly, my body did a flip and it got too hot.
Not sure why not sure what, but I'm monitoring about 100-120 gms of protein per day now and I'm noticing a huge change in my ability to tolerate cold and my hair is thicker than a horses tail now. (which is very cool in a good way!)

Thanks, Stacy, for the protein suggestion. I am very careful about how much protein I eat every day. I still supplement with liquid protein, bascially because I like it, and I drink it as hot chocolate. At least it keeps my hands warm while I drink it, lol. But, I do focus on eating protein first at each meal, so I'm not sure how much more protein I could be eating. I take my bariatric vitamins, and as far as I know, my vitamin blood levels are still good. Maybe I'm just getting old, who knows? My teenage daughter just likes to tell me I'm now "defective".

Hi Debra
I am almost 2 1/2 years post op. I too thought i would adjust, but nope. This year i'm even colder than last year. The only time i don't wear socks is when it's above 75 degrees. I don't think it's the protein, i drink lots of protein, and i take all my vitamins. So far all my blood work is normal.....
hugs

Hi Debra,
Im 5 years out and the coldness doesnt stop. I am cold 24/7. I live in Colorado most of the time and doing a stint in Chicago for about 6 months.
I wear a sweater most of the time and socks to bed.
I finally broke down and got a fur coat.
Even in the summtime I wear a sweater and am cold. Lost all the insulation.

I'm still freezing too!!! I too have been at goal for a year now and I thought things would get better in the body temperature department!!!!
I get 100 grams of protein in every day and have for a year now - it hasn't changed a thing.
I don't have any answers. I get my long underwear out in September!!! I've been wearing them and they worked well through December when we were in the 30's and 40's but not anymore!!! Long underwear, wool socks, 3 layers of shirts and sweaters, fur lined boots..... and I'm STILL FREEZING!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

who'd rather be cold then MO again, but would really rather live somewhere WARM!!!!
Yup, Patty, get the longjohns now. I never had much sympathy for those freezing skinny people when I was a pre-op. I didn't understand why they just didn't put on more clothes. Now I'm one of them. The other day when I came home from work, I didn't take off my down coat or gloves for an hour after I was in the house. My resting pulse is now regularly about 56, so maybe that has something to do with it. Oh well, maybe someday I'll get used to this.

Debra,
I am almost 3 years post op and am just getting ready for plastics though I still have a ton of weight to lose the plastics is to remove the 50+ pounds of hanging skin so that my back will allow me to move to lose the rest. I asked my surgeon the first winter about being cold and he told it was from losing the insulation layer of fat and that often happens to folks who have wls. I am still cold. Wear 2 pairs of pants every day and multiiple shirts, even cut the tips off the fingers of gloves so i can type lol. Your right it is better than being smo but omg it is sooooooooooooooooooooo cold.
Well, i'm not as bad as some of your replies, but i am over 3 yrs. post-op, and while i don't wear thermals, or multiple layers, i have gone to long sleeves, some sweaters, and my sweats as soon as i get home! when i go to restaurants, i never take my coat off unless i have a sweater on...oh, but i wouldn't change it back to the fat world ever!!!
