Hi, Has anyone had bariatric surgery at Munson? I wonder how they are? My insurance (Priority Health) is very strict about where I can go and Munson is the closest to my home (Northeast Mich). Any comments about Munson? Thanks for sharing! Krysti

I had my RNY with Dr. Nizzi at Munson. I'd do it again. They are all very well informed. Grand Traverse Surgery has an excellent bariatriac program run by people who care. A great support group as well. Pam RNY 4/11/05

Hi Krysti ! Your not far from me, i'm in Gaylord. I am in the process of having WLS surgery at Munson with Dr. Nizzi. I have just one more pre-op test to complete and then I should be good to go ! I really really like the Dr, the entire staff over there. I don't think you would be disappointed. They do have monthly seminars so if you ever want to attend a seminar together we can car pool sometime ? or if you have any other questions send me a message or email me ([email protected]). Also, regarding the hospital itself, GREAT ! My mom has had several procedures done there and everytime has went really well. They do a great job there ! JMO tho. Don't hesitate to ask. ~~Rona

Hi Rona, Thanks for the info. I went Tuesday for the Seminar and became very excited. Then on Wed I received my bariatric surgery evaluation approved from Priority Health. So now I am waiting to get in for my consultation with the surgeon, nutritionist and Psychiatrist. When is your surgery date? I will be praying for you! Krysti

Krysti, I have only heard great things about Munson. I didn't have Munson because Priority Health wasn't approving there at the time of my surgery. I know quite a few people that have went to Munson and are very happy. Munson is a great hospital. My sister works there and says she really likes those surgeons, also. I notice you are from Alpena that is where I grew up. We are actually heading that way at 10 am. My son is playing District Hockey playoffs there for the weekend. Good luck, Lynn

Pam and others, Thanks so much for your feedback. Sorry I haven't been on lately as I have been working and every evening have had events going on. Do you have monthly meetings at the Lighthouse Restaurant? How many people come? I would love to come sometime. Let me know when the next meeting is. Thanks again for the invite and all of your great comments. I appreciate your sharing with me! Krysti

Krysti, I didn't go to munson for my surgery but a few people I know have and they seem very pleased with the outcome. I myself go to Ypsilanti to see Dr. Kane. My surgery was a month short of a year ago, but if you have any questions, email me. I am in Alpena too. Good luck with everything. Melissa

Melissa, Wow, you look great! How much weight have you lost? What type of surgery did you have? What was your BMI when you started? Was it all worth it? Thanks so much for sharing, Krysti

Krysti, I have lost between about 96 & 102 pounds, depending on the day and time of month. I see different numbers. I did start out at a 22/24 pants and today bought a 3/4 5/6 & a 7 so I guess its whoever makes them. I have lost 57 inches total. I had the RUENY laproscopic. My BMI was 42 I think. I would do it all again tomorrow if I had to. For me it was worth it, some days are tough, and I get those awful cravings, but in the end I made a choice (and after I saw what the total amount of the surgery was I said "ok, thats enough") The cost of the surgery was the same amount as my first home... I slip some days and test the waters with new foods, but in the end I smack myself upside the head and get back to the basics...haha. Any questions, let me know, I will do what I can to share with ya. Remeber I am in Alpena too, so if you want to talk email me and I will get you my number. Oh ya my doctor was doctor Kam, not Kane, different doc. Melissa
