help with Potassium

when I was getting all my blood work done....my potassium was 5.2. But I remember when I had cushings and my potassium was 1.9.....my legs would cramp. Well the past 2 days it feels like my whole body wants to go into a charlie horse. Especially my arms and calf's. But if I go get blood work done at Drs....it takes a day to get results. If it is low on surgery day will they give me a shot or something to help? I really feel bad with this....don't even want to move.

Go to the store and get some magnesium. Usually when your body wants to cramp, your magnesium is low. I have to take 750 mg a day because mine is so low.

If your potassium is low on your surgery day, they will give you potassium through an IV; this can hurt, but they will try to make it hurt less by adding lidocaine. The IV potassium will bring it up quickly (I know from experience! I had low potassium on my surgery date ... it delayed my surgery four hours but I still had my surgery.) Good luck! Eileen
