Vitamin D

Since November I haven't been feeling well. I've had problems with my kidneys. I have passed stones and still have one in my left kidney as well as a cyst. I have lost some kidney function. My kidney function level is at 51 and as long as it stays there and doesn't drop more or go below 40 I should be okay. This has all been brought on by a extremely low vitamin D level. Mine was at 16 normal is 36. Anything under 25 is dangerous. I now take a vitamin D supplement once a week and in seven weeks it came up ten points. The vitamin D problem has also messed with my thyroid levels to the point that the specialist told me he has never seen it before and is not sure what to do. So he changed my medication and raised to dose and I will see him again in two months. I've told you all this to make you aware of the importance of making sure that when you get your blood work done that the doctor include vitamin D. Please make sure you ask that they are checking for it. I was taking an over the counter supplement but was obviously not absorbing any of it. Take care, Fran

Hi Fran!! It is nice to hear from you. Sorry you are not feeling up to par. I am going today to get medical clearance for a hernia surgery so I will ask my PCP if she drew a Vit. D. I am now on B-12 shots because the sublingual was not working. Thanks for the heads up! Take care and STAY WARM!!
