Blackouts??
Hi, I am 2 weeks out from a TT and hernia repair. Since surgery, I have had 3 'episodes', with the last one being last night, and the most severe. The first happened after I showered and was getting the compression garment back on. I felt dizzy, started to get very hot, and heard a loud humming sound in my ears (my hubby heard nothing). I could not stand up, my hubby held me up. This happened again the next night, after a shower, in the same fashion (both at a week out). Last night, again after a shower, the same thing happened, but this time I blacked totally out. I 'woke up' (?) to my hubby shaking my arm and calling my name. I was on the floor! I don't remember getting to the floor, my hubby says he eased me down because my body went limp. Has this happened to anyone? What could this be? Afterwards I had a massive headache. Last week my surgeon said that dizziness was common, and not to worry about it. But that was without totally blacking out. I have called him today, just no response yet. Any suggestions?
This happened to me a couple times post op.
And my WLS told me this: PROTEIN PROTEIN PROTEIN.
he indicated my body is having that "hypoglycemia" attack, and that I need to drink or eat high protein foods, or eat 1 life saver and bring the sugar level up.
This may or may not be your case, but try the protein and see if that helps you out.
I had problems with dizzyness and tunnel vision post op and that was what it was for me.
Hope that this helps, and possibly is your solution!

it sounds like you are having orthostatic hypotension... ie your b/p goes low causing dizzyness and passing out not uncommon to have this after showers when you have been in the ho****er and all you blood vessels have dialated..... it can also happen when you go from laying to standing fast . Check your fluid intake you will want to increase it.. This being said you need to go to the drs to make sure this is what is happining do not mess with passing out for what ever reason!!!!!
If this is only happening after a shower, there is a common denominator, that is your shower. Try taking a cooler shower. Sometimes hot showers can do that to people. It happened to my daughter when she was pregnant every time she took a shower. With your recent surgery it could be a side effect of your pain meds and or pain you are experiencing. You may want to check your bp and your surgar they too can be low. I would definately check with your doctor either way. Good luck to you.---Toni
I agree it is probably your bp dropping in the heat. You HAVE to stay hydrated really well and yes, lower temp in the shower. Make sure you have someone with you for awhile when you clean up and call your doctor if this continues. You may have an infection also, so keep an eye on how you feel. Stacey is right about the protein for healing. It will help alo****ER AND PROTEIN. Just like after you original wls.

Please check out your blood sugar! And the nurse told me that I wasn't getting enough protien! This in turn caused my insulin to crash big time. This causes a lot of the sysptoms that you just described. Call your surgeon right away! I had my RNY on Feb 5th came home the 7th. Good luck, take care of yourself. I also posted a posting telling more you may want to read it. Thanks, Judy R
