??/ FOR LONG TERM ISSUES
I would like to hear from anyone that is 1 yr or more out from post op. I was wondering if there are any concerns with problems with kidney or any other health issues after WLS surgery.
I had my RNY on jan 8,07 and I am constantly sipping fluids but it seems like I am not urinating properly, not enough,is this a normal side effect ??
If anyone can ease my worries plz respond. I don't want to have kidney or bladder problems, my sister passed away last year due to diabetes and kidney and bladder failure, I don't have diabetes but this scares me.
The only problem that I have now that I have never had in my life is Kidney Stones. My urologist states that some bariatric people have kidney stones after surgery because we all have crystals thats are usually processed and bypassed in the gut but seeing we no longer have a gut, these crystals are filtered into our kidneys and some people don't filter them through and they built into stones. It is just a hit and miss thing. You are still pretty early out so anything that you are giving your body, it is using as fuel so your output might not be like it use to be but once you start taking in ALOT of fluid and more food, then you should be putting out more. This is just my 2 cents worth though. I am not a Dr and feel you should always talk to your surgeon about anything! Talk to you Dr and see what he/she says.

Dear Rebecca,
It started with me not chewing right. I got a piece of chicken stuck. Had to have an endoscope. My surgeon said he felt so sorry for me, he stopped, and put me back in my room at the hospital and said "you stay until it passes or...........". 4 days. I was in the hospital 4 days.
I have had 2 kidney stones. That was horrible. ER trip in an ambulance and a cab ride home. Lovely.
Since then, no problems with my organs to my knowledge.
I found that tho you are sipping, are you getting in the recommended amount your WLS suggests?
