Oddball and maybe gross

So, it feels like I'm coming down with a cold and that got me thinking. All the mucus that runs down the back of my throat and into my pouch when I have a cold..... Are there calories in that? It has substance, and it's salty so there's something to it, any idea what? And, at least with the last cold I had, it threw my appetite completely off, made me feel full, just like a protein shake. So, anybody know? Hope you weren't eating dinner in front of the computer.

Ewwwwwwwwwwwww!!! I can't answer your question, but the thought of it made my little pouch lurch! Start with some Zycam, and maybe you won't get such a bad cold. I swear by it for my kids. Thanks for making me forget about sweets (or anything else for that matter!) for a while!

Hi Jane, Mucus is ALWAYS present in our throat, nose, and upper airways. It is a necessary component of our immune system, however, we never notice it until it thickens as a result of illness, medications, etc. It attracts all of the "bad guys", we swallow it, and our stomach acid eliminates them the attackers. We produce liters of the stuff every day and rarely notice it at all. Saliva. Spit. Sputum..call it what you will. I always wondered about this. A normal, healthy individual produces about a quart of the stuff every day. Without it, our teeth would rot, digestion would be very slow, and we'd be generally very uncomfortable with dry mouth. I am disappointed to find out that our quart of saliva cannot be counted as fluid intake, even though we swallow so much of it. The reason being; most of it is used up in chewing and the early stages of digestion in the stomach/pouch. It never makes it to the gut as soluble "water." Poo-poo. If we could count that 32 ounces toward our fluid intake goals, life would be easier, huh? I think I'll Google "mucus" and see what -comes up-. Have a good one and here's hoping you recover soon. and on the flip side of that ... if it does that mean we're losing weight by blowing our noses? Not just the elimination of the mucous but preventing us from absorbing the calories if digested? lol. If we get acne and then pop our zits is that yet another way to lose more weight? and since methane is lighter than air, does kp gain weight when he farts????
