Finding it difficult to know how to get in all the protein..
Hey Everyone,
I am almost 3 weeks post op; and I am still having a difficult time with getting in all the protein they want me to have. I am also having a hard time with all the water. I really have no idea how to eat and drink at this stage to benefit what I need to be taking in. Saw the nutricianist on Tues., she said I was pushing myself and foods to fast. According to her I am still on semi soft diet, adding only a few new items every couple of days. She did not give me a real reason for this going so slowly. I want to follow what I am supposed to be doing; yet I am truly frustrated with how to do it..
When does this begin to get easier? In a typical day I take in about 40 grams of protein; and about 45 oz of water. I am having a difficult time with the shake thing; I got so turned off on them after 2 week pre op diet! I actually gag somewhat about them now. I have ordered unflavored protein powder to add my diet in other ways. Any suggestions are appreciated! Thanks for all your support.. Sincerely, Judy R.
try wendy's chili and blend it in the blender.....it will help you to get in more protein and tastes ok..you can add unflavored protein powder to the chili too.........you need to advnace slowly in order for your pouch to heal. if you push things too fast it will hurt and you with throw up.......so remember--there is no rush, the important thing is to get healed up and use this time to learn to eat again. These first weeks are really important for you to develop a new relationship with food. so take a breath and relax...follow the directions of your nutritionist and surgeon about what and how to eat.....and let your new tool work for you! yo are doing just fine..hug rae
Hey Judy,
I was a protein shake gagger too
I have to change brands and flavors and finally just resolve myself to drink them everyday.
It's NOT easy- WLS is just a tool- your brain has to do the rest.
I force myself to eat or drink on schedule because I have to- a lot of times at work I am busy and don't think about it- so I have friends who help by reminding me, and finally at 6 weeks out I am starting to remember!
As for slow progress- yep tedious as crap bu****ching the pounds come off on the scale was way more exciting than having a bite or two of chicken.
It only gets easier when you get in the mindset of the new life style. Some days I resign myself to my food choices sucking beyond the telling of it- and other days I do the dance of joy because grapes were added to my diet.
Carry water bottles everywhere! Put them where you see them so you can take a sip when you do see them. If you get hungry take a sip and wait a while before you eat. You have to retrain your mind to get on track with your new system.
Hang in there! You can do this- you deserve success!

i saw these advertised the other day. it's a little 3 ounce "shot" of protein. one little 3 ounce serving has 42 grams of protein and supposedly they taste like jello... i haven't tried them personally (yet), but they sure are intriguing...
