Depression after WLS
I havent had any manic episodes, but I have suffered from severe depression both pre and post weight loss. Issues mostly pertaining to the skin issues and the fact that my life has mostly changed for the worse since I have had surgery. Yes my health and mobility has become better, but other aspects of my life have become to me a personal hell. Relationship issues, living arrangements, dating/sexual issues...all are major areas of depression for me.
I am on meds now for the depression, but doesnt seem to be helping to the level I want it to...so perhaps another adjustment is in order. I know I defintely need therapy but I cannot afford it right now. Even with my insurance copay it is $40 a visit...and at 2-3 times a month...just no way in hell. And the places that charge on a sliding scale tell me that cuz I have the insurance they dont offer the low income assistance. So pretty much SOL till I can find someone who takes pity on me and my situation.
Hi Diane,
I don't mean to intrude, but DO try your local Catholic Charities office. You don't have to be Catholic, of course, and they offer counseling services. I contacted them for help with many of the same issues you have. I have a 50 minute session every 2 weeks and it really helps to get an objective point of view. Take care and Good Luck.

I had severe depression right after surgery. I would wake up at 3 in the morning and cry for hours for no reason. I actually just had to increase my B 12 and I have been fine. I was taking the sublingual 1000 mg once a week and then I increased it to twice a week and now I take it every day. I have been fine since making these adjustments.
