I'm three years p/o and have been so depressed. Does it ever get better? Have tried all kinds of different stuff; it just gets worse. Has anyone ever experienced this. I almost wonder if I made a major misteak having this surgery as I guess my bestest friend was food. I have managed to gain back 20 pounds after being denied (by the DR.) a t/t. Now I find out if I would have went through my original surgeon I might have been able to have him do it. Its a little late for that now. But, where do I go from here. I don't want to gain the rest of this weight back but, this depression is not pretty. Help, thanks in advance for any constructive suggestions. Just me

i'm not a doctor and you should speak to one. that being said i do think you need to break the cycle of thinking that being depressed leads to eating. i'm sure the fact that you've gained weight is adding to your depression and so you're setting up a bad cycle of beating yourself up, rewarding yourself with food, and beating yourself up some more. remember you have a tool you didn't used to have, if you feel hungry eat something that will fill your pouch up without having a lot of calories, and then even though you want to eat, you won't because you'll be full. THEN you'll have to find a new way of dealing with your depression, like maybe going for a walk or getting together with some friends and you might find yourself feeling better instead of worse. Remember to congratulate yourself on anything you do that is GOOD for you. It will make you feel better and give yourself motivation to keep doing good things. hang in there. get some professional help. many of us do. i do. don't beat yourself up. love yourself.

Hey Bestest secret pal EVER!!! I KNOW what you are talking about! I too am going thru the same as you are. I really think, the futher we are out the more difficult it is. Jay is right that it is a vicious circle we can get ourselves into, but I don't think it is quite as easy as he puts it once you get past your 3yr pt. I have talked to many that are going threw this that is why I have been preaching to any and all the newbies that will listen to get counseling before and after surgery, Food is OUR drug of choice, but we can't just put our drug down and walk away, we do have to eat. We just have to make the right choices. but as Jay mentioned it doesn't have to be. We just have to make more of an effort now. I would be happy to be your accountablity partner, if you would like. And you could be mine as well. Recently one of the girls from my group and I became accountablity partners too and it really helps. Are you able to exercise now? I know you where having some problems before. If you want to email me privately or send me your no. and I will call you and we can talk. No depression isn't pretty and I do understand. matter of fact I had to recently up my meds. I hope this finds you feeling a little better. God Bless, Bonnie, Your pal Toni

Hi Toni, Thank you as always for blazing a trail for us newbies. This one appreciates it, as I do everything you do. I like the idea of accountability partners. Hugs to you, Phyllis
