Update
Just to let everyone know, I have not been able to get a hold of my surgeon yet. However, I am getting worse. So, my husband will be taking me back to the hospital tomorrow night. I know I know, I should be going tonight, but I just want one more night to sleep in my own bed before I have to go through this all over again.
I will be opting to go to the hospital here in Traverse City versus making the 4 hour drive back downstate. If they tell me that I have to stay, or god forbid, need more surgery then I will again, opt to stay in Traverse City. However, I may not have a choice because I don't see my surgeon making a trip up here (that and he has no authority to operate up here) so I may have to make the trip back down there anyway.
Needless to say I am beside myself thinking about it. I am trying not to think the worst, but it's easier said than done considering what I have been through these last few months. I mean it's crazy. So that's that.
Sorry to hear you're in pain & suffering such anxiety.
I don't know your surgery type or history.
So I can only share the following, which may or may not be helpful.
Post RNY, when introducing real food, I became painfully bound-up.
Had never had this problem in my life, so it was tricky to figure out.
It also took time to regulate, esp including never denying possible need to eliminate.
addition of good cereal daily, (prefer NaturesPathways Optima, or similar in their line).
ALL of my necessary fluids. including some in middle of night.
Adding a powdered fiber to other foods. Keeping GasX & Fleet enema ready in house, & stool softener product... also there is a prescription med your DR can give to help while on pain med.
Plus work towards eliminating the narcotic pain med, as it also deadens your muscle reaction to eliminate.
Plan on relaxing session on "pot" at same time interval after meal... try to not strain.
Read, knit ;)
Were it me going to ER, I'd take along some paperwork detailing the procedure I'd had done, & Dr info... they should be able to contact him for particulars.
I also thought I had hernia... turned out my Super Doc, (Pleatman), found I had a cyst on my belly button, likely since baby, which has been an ongoing discomfort all of my 50+ years. pain bleeding etc, which other Docs ignored... & which is easily corrected whenever it is that I can afford Tummytuck...
.. not suggesting this is your issue, just that it may not be hernia, but some other fairly minor issue... including unresolved impaction of stool...
Btw this was still quite painful post elimination... felt like been scrapped with dull knives on inside for about a day.
Just be sure to carefully consider whatever Hospital staff does, & ask for second opinion + contact with your surgery Doc & Primary Doc consult before any rush to treat>> via surgery.
Best wishes to you dear
Chris
