When I was at the Support meeting tuesday...a few people were eating protein bars I believe. I would like to find one, no sugar, low calories, if possible, something that tastes good..lol So I can grab for snack. I like peanuts, caramel.... Also...what are sugar alcohols? I see items with no sugar but have sugar alcohols.

Sugar alcohol is the sugar subsitute content. Makes me dump slightly if its too high. Stuff like Malitol. The three protien bars that I like personally are Pure Protien, Carb Well, both at Kroger, Meojer, Wal-mart, pretty easy to find. the only one my husband likes is the Morning Crunch bars by Adkins. Harder to find now I can only find them at the Vitamin Shoppe.

Just wanted to let you know that the Sam's Club at M59 and M53 carries the Atking Morning bars. I don't know the quanity or price, but I woud assume they would be cheaper than Vitamin Shoppe! They are located near the pharmacy in the same isle as other protein bars if you are interested. Hope that helps! Jennifer

I like the detour bars. I have found them at Target in single bars and someone told me they sell them at Sam's in packs. Target has a lower sugar version that only has 3grams of sugar in them. The flavor I eat is peanut caramel.

Hi Debbie, I like the Balance Carb well bar. Be sure to read the label, because Balance makes other bars. Only the carb well bars have the reduced sugar. 190 calories; 7g fat; 23 total carbs (2 netcarbs); 1fber; 1 sugar; 20 sugar alcohol; 14 protein. You can get balance bars just about anywhere. Proto pure bars ~190 calories; 6 fats; 17 total carb (3net carbs); 1 fiber; 2 sugars; 7 sugar alcohols; 20 protein. I also like the Oh Yeah bars I don't have a label to copy from but its more like a snack bar only 9g protein, but it sure taste good. I get the Proto Pure and the Oh Yeah bars from Vitamin World. The vitamin Shop also carries the Oh Yeah bars. Be careful with the sugar alcohols. When I was first out I couldn't tolerate them and they would cause me to dump. Now I'm fine with them, but keep the sugar and cashews away from me LOL. Best wishes finding a bar that you like. God bless, Annette

Sugar alcohols make me dump worse than anything loaded with sugar!! And very little of it at that! I try to avoid them as best I can. I like the south beach diet bars, only 10 g of protein, but I don't dump and they are good. Wendy

I have avoided protein bars. Personally I think they are high in calories for the protein level, but that's just my opinion. Plus, I never found one that I liked the taste well enough to justify eating one of those compared to another snack. Go figure, I absolutely love my liquid protein, but don't like the bars. Sugar alcohols don't make me dump, but all of the sugar alcohols can have a laxative effect on anyone, WLS patient or not. My daughter found that one out the hard way, after consuming a large quantity of SF popsicles and dreamsicles at one time. 20 grams of sugar alcohols would send me to the toilet, guarenteed. I always look at the number of grams of sugar alcohols in any SF product I eat. 10-12 grams are about the max for me. If I'm trying to grab a high protein snack, I usually pack jerky cut into bite site pieces, about 10 almonds, and an ounce of cheese. However, I do understand the convenience of protein bars.
