The closer I am getting to surgery..(which I still have no date) I will probably have one by next weekend...But anyway the more questions come to mind... 1. How many people had a special pre-surgery diet? and what was it? 2. How bad did you hurt after surgery? I had my gallbladder out last year then 2 months later had an umbillical hernia repaired, so I know pain...I want to think it will be like when I had my gallbladder out but probably like someone hit me in the stomach with a 2 by 4....lol 3. How long did you hurt after you got home? I know that everyone is different but I like to be prepared... 4. After surgery did you have a weight restriction? And how much was the max that you would lift?..... I know that is alot but please help me I would rather know from others than to hear it from any doctor about pain. But I know I will be given more instructions as I get closer...Thank everyone in advance......

Lap or open? I had laprascopic. 1. my pre-surgery diet was two weeks of an all liquid diet and clear liquids only the day before surgery. 2. I didn't hurt much. I don't think the surgery left me with much pain at all but for the first few weeks i had some pain which i later figured out was due to drinking too soon after eating (for me, i had to wait HOURS before i could drink after eating or i was in pain, most people aren't like that and they recommend at least half an hour) 3. I had some moderate pain when i laughed or coughed for the first 3-4 days after getting home. I also had a bad backache from the operating table and some major pain in my shoulder that was due to the gas they use to pump up your abdomen to make it easier to do the laprascopic surgery. Walking helped the gas pain but it took maybe a week. The back pain worked itself out and the laughing and coughing was better once the incision began to heal. 4. 10lbs for the first week. then i was okay. good luck.

doesn't seem crazy. sounds normal! i've never had gallbladder surgery but i know people who have had both and they tell me that the gallbladder surgery hurt more than the RnY laprascopic surgery.

Hi Crystal, The only "stupid" question is the one that remains unasked. I had to follow a clear liquid diet for 1 week pre-op. S.F. Jello, clear broth, protein drinks made with water. No protein 24 hours before surgery. and nothing to eat after midnight evening before surgery. From what I can remember(and it's kind of spotty) I had terrible pain in my left shoulder and left side, after I "pushed the button" I didn't feel a thing. The next time I woke up I was pain free. Couldn't believe how major surgery didn't hurt. Different people have different tolerance levels for pain. You may or may not be pain free, but I hope you don't feel a thing. God bless, FF

HI CRYSTAL...I WAS ON A LIQUID HIGH PROTEIN DIET BEFORE SURGERY FOR TWO WEEKS AND ALSO AFTER WLS FOR A COUPLE WEEKS....COULD HAVE SOME PUREED FOODS AFTER ALSO. THE ONLY PAIN I HAD AFTER SURGERY WAS THE GAS ONLY. DIDN'T HURT AT ALL WHEN I CAME HOME. I DIDN'T HAVE ANY WEIGHT RESTRICTIONS AT ALL. I HAD MINE DONE LAP AND I NEVER EVEN USED THE PAIN BUTTON THAT WAS THERE FOR ME TO USE. YOU CAN ASK ANY QUESTIONS THAT YOU LIKE AND WE ARE HERE TO ANSWER THEM FOR YOU....

Tracey, Water is ok, but leave out the 7-Up. Drink crystal light or fruit 2o. It's a good idea to get off soda and other carbonated drinks now. The carbonation and acid in soda can irritate your tummy and cause ulcers. KathyG
