Hi, I have been researching WLS, and well I don't have insurance yet and I sure can't afford a surgery. So I have an appointment with Medical Weight Loss Clinic. I have heard it works, does anyone have any experience with going there? Or know of anyone that has been there and maybe what they do, and the costs? I mean I will find out tonight but I am just curious on other peoples opinions. Thank you!

Honestly, no, it did not work for me. Hence the reason I needed gastric bypass. However, that's not to say it wouldn't work for you. Medical Weight Loss is not cheap. It cost me $500 + just to start the program and they will want you to take weight loss medication. They wanted me to take phen-fen. You know, the drug that caused all the nice heart problems. They will put you on a no carb diet to start. You will eat meat meat and more meat and some eggs. Honestly, I don't recommend that program. If you really want to try something before looking in to gastric bypass, try Weigh****chers. It's the closest thing to eating like a normal person and it's a lot cheaper than MWL. Good luck Julie P.S. I have tried every diet known to man, I'm sure I could rate them all.

When I did MWLC, they didn't have me take any meds. I DID, however, try MWLC a second time and went to my doc on my own for Meridia. So, not everyone is put on a diet pill at MWLC. But I know they do offer that.

I went to Medical Weight Loss in August of 03. I lost 95 pounds in 9 months (beginning weight was 337). I also joined Curves the same day and worked out there 3 times a week. I ate plenty of food...sometimes more than I cared to eat. The diet worked well. After 9 months, I got pregnant and they told me I had to "go off" the diet. Well, unfortunately, I miscarried a short time later. I managed to keep the weight off for nearly a year, on my own. But then it started creeping back. I went back to MWLC. I started all over. I could not beat the cravings, so I took Meridia, as well. I couldnt' recapture my MOTIVATION. As soon as I didn't follow that diet to a T, I gained. Eventually, I gained back to within 2 pounds of my "high" at MWLC. I had RNY in August of 05. I've lost 130 pounds. Now, even though the diet didn't work long term for me, that's not to say it won't work for you. The best thing that came out of this was that when I did go ahead with my surgery, I had 3 years of medically supervised diet records. My insurance required 6 months. So that base was covered EASILY. But unfortunately, I've heard that some insurance companies won't accept that, but I can't verify that. MWLC was not cheap. My initial payment to them was around $1000. And you have to buy their "nutrients". They require you to take 3 a day. So, one $15 box has 7 nutrients. It takes three boxes a week. They OFTEN have sales and it's pretty reasonable, if you can afford to stock up. If it is your only resource right now, I'd say give them a try. MWLC was honestly the only diet I was EVER on where I didn't go hungry! There was PLENTY of food to eat, every day. It was ALL grocery store food, except for the nutrients (soups, puddings, shakes, bars, etc.). Those were generally treated as snacks. Good luck. Hope it all works for you!

Thank you both Julie and Christina. I went there last night for my consultation and how much I wanted to lose would take I believe it was 41 weeks. There was no way i was paying as much as they wanted. I was going to try the "Jumpstart" But that freaked me out....blood work like every month, shots of B12, Pills, it was all WAY too much for me. So I went with "Liberty" I'm paying $500 for 24 weeks. Plus the cost of Nutrients. I go back today for blood work and what not and I start a clense for three days then go on the diet. I already have a gym membership and I plan on going alot, so I am praying this works! They are guaranteeing that I lose 72lbs in 24 weeks or it is free after the 24 weeks to get to that goal. My ending goal is really to lose 123lbs. I really apprieciate both of your inputs. Thank you! And you will be seeing more of me on the board! Soon I shall get my pic on here as well. Thank you again!

Also, I was just thinking. What were your favorites out of the nutrients? I haven't tried any yet because I still ahev to go through everything, but I'd like to know which ones you thought was the best tasting out of them all, the best bars, the best puddings, drinks, and so on. Thank you!

I am trying to remember which ones I liked. I don't know if they are the same or not, but I really liked the hot chocolate. I usually did two of those and a bar. Some of the drinks weren't bad and your tastes will adjust to them as you get all the sugar and what not out of your sytem. I do remember that there were some that you could make into a pudding or a shake. If I remember correctly, they weren't that good to me. They did have a double chocolate pudding. That was the best, but at that time, they were getting rid of some of the flavors and that was one of them. But a lot could've changed in the past three years. There was a yogurt covered bar that wasn't bad. The bad thing is that you have to buy a box and try them. The office I went to, in Ann Arbor, was really good about setting samples out for us to try. Hope it all works out for you! Tina

Hi Toni, Yes if this doesn't work I will go for WLS and yes I shouldn't have too many problems getting approved. For now, I guess I will see where this takes me. Thank you for the luck! ....Christa
