Going to normal food

Okay you guys, i'm off today and bored out of my mind. I've been reading on various boards and noticed something and want to see your guys' opinion on this. When you was first put onto solid foods, normal foods, what ever you call that stage LOL , what was it that you ate? I could have cared less, wasn't hungry and stuck to my popsicles and cottage cheese. Good choices right? Well i seen on the main board where a lady is going to normal foods tomorrow and wants a sonic chili dog! Why in the hell would you go through all of this and sabottage yourself like that? The only time i craved was for watermelon or a deviled egg, never a chili dog. She even tries to make it better by saying she would share it with her son. And to top it off, a few of the ppl who answered her told her just to make sure she chewed it enough. Do you guys think pre op that you can have surgery and no matter what you eat post op that the weight is just gonna melt? Do you think there isn't work involved? Come on, a chili dog? For all of you pre ops, this surgery isn't a miracle cure . You have hard work, determination and a lot of fighting with your head to be a success. Sure down the road farther you can indulge in things once in a blue moon, but you have to be accountable for what you're putting in your mouth. Now , get off your butts and get some exercise in, You'll be happy you did. Hugs Linda

Unfortunately Linda there are some people that do not take this as serious as others do. I was so afraid to try anything that close out of surgery but that was my opinion. It makes me sad to see people "cheating" that far out. I had cravings too. It seems like everytime there was a pizza commerical on TV those first couple of months after surger I was drooling. LOL I think sometimes doctors do surgery on patients that are not very dedicated to this process. I have a couple of people I know that are like that. It is the sad reality of our stories. Some people take advantage of things. Suzanne

I remember laying in the hospital both times right after surgery. Every other commercial was advertising pizza hut or mcdonals chicken....remember the back away from the chicken commercial? It drove me nuts! Hugs Linda

This is the same lady who will be on the computer tonight asking for advice because she is sicker than a dog and can't understand why, or has to puke all night because the hot dog is stuck. People like that make it hard for me to post anymore because they just are not using their heads. They think this is a mircale cure and that they are going to lose weight just because they can't eat as much as they use to. You still have to watch what you eat!!!! This in ONLY A TOOL!!! Tools only work if you use them correctly. I am in no way perfect and I eat things I should not but I am not on the board crying because I ate what I wasn't suppose to eat!!!

you're right. You know in the beginning you really can't eat enough to gain weight, but you can hinder it by making bad choices. It just worries me that she gets the all clear for normal food and she's dreaming about a chili dog and justifying it by saying she'll share it with her son. I dare her to eat it! I think in the 2 1/2 years post op i've maybe eaten part of a chili dog 2 or 3 times. It was one of my favorites pre op but hate em now. Isn't this the kind of foods that made us fat to begin with? Man, she needs a reality check. Linda

Hey Guys, I agree in a lot of ways! I am only one month post; and yes I still get crazy cravings. I think of how difficult it has been to get even just as far as I have gotten! If she really want a chili dog why can't she be smarter about it. For instance: ball park fat free hot dogs, make her own chili sauce; and at least somewhat smarter help her cravings? I believe this is a life long change; therefore we must learn to make substitutions, and better choices! I did Weigh****chers for a long time; and there is always an answer to cravings by making smarter choices, and substitiutions!!! I am looking at protein, sugar and fiber content in everything! Today my hubby wanted spegetti sauce; I looked for the lowest sugar content in one..LOL.. Yes, guess I am becoming a health nut as I used to call them.. LOL Making smart choices is the tool our chili dog gal needs.. Scolding her may only put her back into her bad self sabotaging behavior! Encourage better choice, exercise, and a good look back are my script for her.. YOU ALL ARE 100 PERCENT RIGHT THIS IS ONLY A TOOL; BUT MAYBE SHE NEEDS MORE TOOLS AS WELL.. Sincerely, Judy R.

Judy you're absolutely right! Did you go read the post and my reply? Her saying " tomorrow i start normal food wooo hoooo i'm craving a chili dog and i know sonic sells them" really made me think back to the day when i got cleared for all foods. My reply to her was that as early out as she is, she should be looking for pure protein first, not fat. I told her if she is really wanting a chili dog, get jenni-o turkey hot dogs (not sure if you tried them but they taste like ball park and are full of protein) and i told her to make her own chili so she'd know what is going into it. Was i wrong? Hugs Linda

I myself have came to far to return to what got me here in the first place... I just hope she figures it out too. I appreciate all the help I recieve on this board; and I feel we all need to help and encourage one another! Thanks, Judy R.

I agree with previous msgs. I have been having my cravings but did't act on them, 2 mths out now, rats but not sick. I have been reading all posts for sugestions and everyone is helpful, I have been sticking to lo carb, sf and fat free food the best I can, its just hard planning my daily intake, so I hope that chili dog stays down lol !!! I will be having a ct scan and scope done next week, dr suspects ulcer! Still having side pain I have been bugging my nut for food receipes and bought several slow cooker and lf-sf books, so I am trying to change my mind thoughts!!! God bless
