HI Sherry, I had surgery in July 2005. I did have sleep apnea and was put on C-pac and o/2 machine. Had major problems falling a sleep while driving. I lost 30 lps before surgery by being on the diet foods that I purchased from the hospital (which were costly, but did work). Most peolple do this for two weeks, I did it for four weeks.
I have had only a few minor problems and have lost over one hundred pounds. If I can give you some advise I would say stay on the diet that the hospital and doctors tell you to after sugery and try not to exsperment to see what you can try. I did not, and I have not lost as much weight as as should have and have even gained ten pounds.
Do not get me wrong, I believe that the surgery saved my life and I can get along much better then before. I am off the C-pac and o2 machine and have reduced my diabetic meds. Take it from someone that has been there and has not followed the rules that only about the first year is it fairly easy to lose weight, after that it gets much harder. I know unles you are into winter that it is hard to get enough exercise in Michigan. but it is very important. Please listen to someone that has not followed the rules.

First of all get all the junk out of the house. It doesn't hurt your family to eat healthy too. Eat high protein , low carb. Eat protein first, veggies or fruit next, then carbs or fat last. Load your body with water, there are lots of sf non carbonated drinks out there you should be able to find something you like. Start walking now to make your recovery easier.
Don't say you can't do it, you can! Be determined . You're going to be changing your whole lifestyle, get a good start.
Hugs
Linda
Hi Sherry,
You have to decide if this is REALLY what you want, and then set your mind to it. This is your life and your journey. I know it seems like you will never eat normal again. It's NOT true. You will eat normal again. Yes, you do have to modify and there are a few things we shouldn't eat, but you know those same things ie; Sugar and Fat NO ONE should. They aren't good for anyone, not just us. Are you feeling like you are losing your best friend? I know I did and so do many, but the only thing we are losing is weight. We gain so much more, we gain, health, self esteem, pride, confidence etc. we are gaining so much more then we will ever lose. After surgery the best advice I can give is to "Not test the waters" when it come to things you shouldn't eat. Once they are out of your system you won't crave them like you do now. There are great modified reciepes out there that you can make and eat that are great, so you don't feel deprived. I want to wish you the best on your journey Good luck to you and God Bless----Toni
Thanks Toni ,
everything you said was right I guess am feeling like I will never be able to eat again !!
