Question about sleep apnea

I don't think I have sleep apnea, don't snore, and a test isn't ordered. But I was wondering what they do differently if you do have it? And since I know that some people are undiagnosed (like Linda T.) and had big problems, why don't they just do whatever they do to everyone, to be on the safe side?

I'm not sure what they do differently other than maybe some steroids or breathing treatments pre op and you wake up in recovery with your cpap on. I was in total denial about sleep apnea. I had every single symptom but thought i was lucky my surgeon didn't ask me for one...what a mistake! I slept with a fan on my face, everyone denies snoring LOL, i fell asleep sitting up, even while going to the bathroom. I still didn't see it. Take charge of your care patty. Even if you think you don't have it, just be safe and do the study anyway. If your doc doesn't order the test, demand it! I am not mad at my surgeon for not doing it, i should have taken charge and just done the study. I am very lucky to be here today, sleep apnea and anesthesia is deadly when mixed. Hugs Linda

they keep you on CPAP during the surgery and you bring your own cpap machine to the hospital for right after surgery and during your stay.
