Lack of sex drive?

Ok, poll time again! I have noticed that it is more fun than it was at almost 400 pounds, but that sex is not a big desire for me even though it is better. I thought when you lost all this weight, the energy and sex drive came roaring back. If anything, I think I have much less of a drive than ever. I am just curious if anyone else finds this as well. (you can email me if you would rather.) I also have been anemic and this could be a contributing factor, but I don't think it is all that it is. One other thought, is that I am somewhat self concious of the excess skin and all, but my husband is so reassuring that I am not sure that is all it is either. Anybody else got any ideas? Wendy

I have no idea, since I'm not on the "other side" yet...but, I really hope mine doesn't get any lower because it'll be EXTINCT! Yikes! LOL

I'm happy to say that I have NOT found this to be true.

I have to agree that it is much better! I don't see my drive as any different than it was pre-op.

I have this issue too. I had it prior to surgery as well though. I feel confidant that it is because of my body because on a few occasions I have had Ambien (I have many stories about this but will stick to the subject at hand) and apparently it changes my perspective on the situation and I am not so self-conscious. My husband is also very reassuring about the loose skin but it still bothers me. If I could afford it I would have plastic surgery. Holly W

Well I have to agree that sex is WAY more fun!!! I do also have to agree that my drive is way less than it was before surgery. At first I thought it was my birth control (Nuvaring), then I blamed it on "problems" dh and I were having before I finally came to the conclusion that it is purely body image issues. Now I think my lack of sex drive is purely because I am 6 weeks pregnant This was NOT part of the plan but on a funny note at least I have 9 months of excuses for no sex LOL!!! Jennifer 355/214/150

If, by any chance, they put on you anti-depressants, that will kill your sex drive... not sure how common it is for those going through WLS to get put on them, but I know a friend of mine was when she started the process... and I've been on them for years now, so I can speak from experience. They can definitely diminish your sex drive...

Hi Wendy, I feel the same as you. I am certain it is body image though. Also, I am pushing 50 years old, and have begun the pre-menopause thing. My PCP says the hormonal changes can do that. When I was 300 pounds, sex was very uncomfortable with my lack of mobility. It is easier now so that makes it more pleasurable, but the drive is just not there. Intimate moments are few and far between. My poor DH thinks it's him. I tell him it has nothing to do with him and everything to do with the changes I am going through but get that through his "other" head...LOL. KathyG
